Swim
Comments: Good swim, felt really good during and after. Had clean water for most of the swim with almost zero contact. Thought about how my son was doing most of the swim. He has been doing some training with me and really wanted to do this race. His longest pool swim was 600 yds and first open water swim was the day before the race. I knew he could do it, but was still worried about him. What would you do differently?: Swim a little harder, still learning to pace. Transition 1
Comments: Waited for my son who swam 13 min, so we could do the bike and run together. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: Averaged about 17 out against a pretty good headwind, at the turn told my son that I would try to hold it at about 20mph the first half back and see how we felt. With a few miles to go, my son pulled along side and said he felt good and was ready to go. He held it at 25-27 for the last few miles and was in front for a lot of it. I kept telling him that we still had a 5k to run, but he just kept going. What would you do differently?: Go a little harder on the way out. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition, my son had a gel and some water. He was afraid to try on the bike. He really hasn't put in many long bike rides. Run
Comments: I felt good at the start, but my son had some cramping, so the first half mile was really slow. After that we had a really good run, walked just a few steps at the water station. It would have been nice to have the miles marked on the road, we had no idea of our pace. There was a women who I could see was catching us, so I told my son that we would try to stay with her the last mile or so. We kept pace with her, then with about 1/4 mile to go my son was ready to finish and really picked up the pace. The final stretch my son was really going and left me. Post race
Warm down: Lots of water and oranges What limited your ability to perform faster: I waited about five minutes after the swim in T1 for my son. I feel that I could've gone faster on bike and run, but didn't want to push my son too hard. I was happy to see him finish the bike and run strong. I held back some but didn't feel as strong and fast as I did for Cajunman. Event comments: It is a great feeling to finish any race, but to share the experience with a child makes it really special. My son who just turned 15 placed first in his age group M15-19, there were only two in his age group. I am very proud of him for just competeing and finishing. Last updated: 2009-09-17 12:00 AM

Ate PB sandwich and choclate milk breakfast, woke up the wife and one of my sons that is doing the race with me. Got everything loaded up and made the 30 min trip to Youngsville. Not much rest race night, homecoming night for my son. Got home at about 2am.
Light stretching and a short jog.
