Swim
Comments: I was really nervous about the swim. All of the articles I have read and the videos I have watched have all frightened me about the contact in the water. I have to say it was not that bad. I used to race bicycles years ago in criteriums and the bumping was much worse in those than in the swim of this tri. What would you do differently?: I would get in the front of the pack at the start instead of lingering at the back. I had to pass quite a few people and I realized my swim was stronger than I thought. I just wanted to get out of that disgusting water! Transition 1
Comments: Not much of a problem here since I did not have a wetsuit to deal with. It was a bit of a pain getting the sand off my shoes. Maybe I will bring a small bucket of water next time. Bike
What would you do differently?: I pushed it a little too hard on the bike, which probably made my run more difficult than it needed to be. Transition 2
Comments: No times given, but it felt pretty quick. Run
Post race
Warm down: None really. Oranges and bananas and a Vitamin Water What limited your ability to perform faster: I felt good, but I need to dose my efforts better in the swim and bike and save some for the run. I think I will enjoy it more. Although I still had a blast! Event comments: I will definitely do this race again next year and try and improve my time. Of course, I hope to be racing in my age group versus the Clydes. We shall see! Last updated: 2009-09-28 12:00 AM

I packed my bag the night before and set out my timing chip and T-area wristband with my clothes for the morning. I got into bed around 9:00, but of course I slept terribly. I woke up 2 or 3 times and ultimately just got out of bed at 3:45AM. I had a half a bagel with PB and a banana for breakfast, but its hard for me to eat that early.
I did not do much to warm up prior to the race. I just tried to stay in warm clothing until the last possible minute and did some minor stretching. I did get into the water to swim a few strokes before the race start. That was good to shake off the jitters.
