Pre-race routine:

I don't realy have one, my first Tri.
Ate well night before and got to bed early, left the motel for the event at 6am as it was just a couple of mins away.
Event warmup:

Race start was delayed and format changed due to heavy fog, so warm up was a short jog then a few mins swim in the lake before lining up for the sprint start.
Swim
  • 21m 34s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was a little confusing withthe Oly swimmers being near the end of their first lap when the sprint started. Starting at the back of the sprint was a mistake as it turned out. Enjoyed the swim and once into my rythm there was a lot of traffic to pass.
What would you do differently?:

I was woried as it was a mass start, next time I'll go for it and start at the fromt and go a little harder for the first 100m.
Transition 1
  • 01m 48s
Comments:

I don't have my shoes on the bike, putting them on was quick thought.
BIG mistake was not checking my bike would come out (seat racked) under the rack.
What would you do differently?:

Check getting out of the rack!
Bike
  • 45m 26s
  • 12.4 miles
  • 16.38 mile/hr
Comments:

Only passed by 1 rider, enjoyed this course with lots of short steep decents then climbs. ideal for a MTBer.
What would you do differently?:

Go a little harder in the first 1 - 2 miles.
Transition 2
  • 00m 52s
Comments:

Forgot I was not on my MTB, road bike has no grip and poor brakes! I think I was close to DQ as I couldn't stop and was jumping off the bike as I went over the mat.
What would you do differently?:

slow down on the bike a little earlier.
Run
  • 29m 45s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 09m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

Run was very hard as the course started with a decent then a steep climb on rocks! after this the gradients got better but ther was a lot of muddy spots and the lady I paced with lost her shoe in it!

What would you do differently?:

I don't mind mud/rocks but I had not prepared for it. Need suitable training if the course is like Xterra racing.
Post race
Warm down:

walking cool down and stretch. Local physio was doing free massage which was great.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

decision making and lack of confidence entering the beach start swim.

Event comments:

The late start was weather related and the race director did well to get things off quickly after the fog by changing to a mass beach start.
Into T2 was poorly signed.
Run course was too rough with no prior warning, I think they already plan too have next years run on road.
