Overall Rank = 136/388
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 15/41
Pre-race routine:

2 slice of toast with Jam - Banana - Gatorade (2 hrs before the start)
30 minutes before swim I also took a carboshot - coffee flavour ..yummy!!
Event warmup:

Forgot my racebelt so my wife brought it to me from home with only minutes left before transition closed. Had to run to the car which was about 500 meters away - this was my warm up.
Swim
  • 32m 56s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 12s / 100 meters
Comments:

Felt great the whole swim - did not take a break at all - could have swum 4km it was that pleasant. I actually got hold of someones feet for the first 300 m and I should have stayed there but I felt as though I was going to struggle to keep hold so I let go to swim my own race - at about the 1km mark someone from the next wave has caught me but I also caught others from the wave in front which was a first!! But was I swimming better or were they just bad swimmers??
What would you do differently?:

In hindsight I should have and could have hung on to those feet for the entire 1500m - I would have had an awesome swim time if I did.
Transition 1
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

I always struggle getting my feet into the shoes - I dont know if the shoes I bought were made for it or what but I always seem to almost stop before I get my feet in. This time was better but it was no where near perfect.
What would you do differently?:

Practice the shoe thing more
Bike
  • 1h 05m 28s
  • 40 kms
  • 36.66 km/hr
Comments:

Felt great on the bike - not sure if it was because i took it too easy on the swim. I seemed to pass a lot of people during the headwind section - I think I get more aero than others which helps. Once again I was a little cautious about pushing too hard after the rockingham tri fiasco. Lots of drafting on the course with plenty of officials warning people.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - maybe go up a notch or two in effort but that is all.
Transition 2
  • 01m 15s
Comments:

I had a decent drink in transition which I probably should not have done, Apart from that it was pretty good transition.
What would you do differently?:

Not drink in transition
Run
  • 44m 39s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 28s  min/km
Comments:

I really enjoyed the run up until I started cramping in my thighs when I over extending my run stride. I took extra effort to shorten my stride and increase my cadence which is what I would normally do anyway. I ran behind another guy for about 4kms - he was pacing around the 4.25 mark which was comfortable for me - I just watched his feet and zoned out for a while. I told him my watch had broken and asked if I could stay wit him and pace - he said fine but not long after he said he couldnt hold the pace and so I moved on - felt great knowing that i still had heaps in me. On the final lap I was still running around the 4.25-4.30 mark and help it. I could have sprinted the the last 500m but I was scared that the cramps in my thighs would cause me to stop so close to the finish so I just maintained the pace through to the end.
What would you do differently?:

Take some salt tablets and maybe wear my fuel belt so some extra water - I cannot drink water from those plastic cups when I am running!! My heart rate was fairly low for the run so next time I will push it up to 165 as an average.
Post race
Warm down:

Banana - Protein Snack - Gatorade

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Never raced that distance before so I was unsure how I would perform so I took it easier than usual and paced myself around 80% - next time I will race at 90%
