Pre-race routine:

Plenty of time pre race to setup in transition an dthen relax for quite some time prior to wave start.
Event warmup:

Quite a bit of stretching and a light warmup swim.
Swim
  • 33m 15s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

Lousy swim, hadn't worn my wetsuit for about 3yrs and didn't practice open water swim in it prior to the race. The wetsuit was far to tight and I eventually unziped it partially to assist with breathing. It also made my arm stroke short. One of my slowest swim times over this distance.
What would you do differently?:

Re hydrate my wetsuit and test it out prior to a race.
Transition 1
  • 03m 59s
Comments:

Typical T1 with wetsuit. The run is quite long out of water and to bikes
Bike
  • 1h 08m 6s
  • 40 kms
  • 35.24 km/hr
Comments:

Felt good on the bike, actually felt faster than what I actually rode, so may have had a bit more. Enjoyed the ride course. Best Olympic 40k race ride for me.
What would you do differently?:

Pulled up a bit sore and tight in lower back. with such a flat course, with the hill exception) I spent all the time on tri bars which i don't get to do in training to much.
Transition 2
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

Lost my bike computer in transition, holding onto head stem! Found lip balm stick inside runner,Oops Another long run through transition up and over ramps.
What would you do differently?:

Check shoes
Run
  • 48m 29s
  • 10 kms
  • 04m 51s  min/km
Comments:

Felt like a long 10km, the humidity knocks me around so was right on the limit of heat. Tried to avoid the sprinklers for first half so as not to soak feet, but still got wrinkled skin on the feet and a bit sore. Best olympic 10k run for me.
Post race
Warm down:

Only a light stretch in the finish holding yard to much time catching up with friends.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim was my big downfall. Rookie mistakes!

Event comments:

Very well organised event. Besides expense of getting there (interstate) and accomodation i'd do this every year!
