Swim
Comments: Walked into the water to let the water get into the wetsuit. Started swimming. The water felt good because the air temp was cold. I had no troubles breathing or sighting. My stroke felt strong. Ran into John from TTT about 1/2 way thru. Said hi and continued on. I stopped almost everytime I touched someone. I need to continue. I stopped waaayyy too many times. The chop/wind picked up and pushed at all of us. I found it easier to breath by turning into the wind/chop instead of away from it. I beat my 2007 Oly swim time by 9 min. but I could've done better. What would you do differently?: Keep swimming. I was entirely to lackadasical. Push, push, push. Transition 1
Comments: My wetsuit got stuck. Ended up sitting down to fight it. Finally got it off. I had some stuff I've never used before on the bike but due to the weather conditions, felt I needed to. Full zip windbreaker & ear covers. This slowed me down a little bit What would you do differently?: Nothing new on race day. Practice different conditions. But I'm a real wimp about riding in the rain. Bike
Comments: My pre-race goal here was to equal my last Oly bike time (75min). Due to the weather conditions, this did not happen. I did not push this. We went across the dam (seemed to take forever) and then uphill (10min of steady up). After that it was a net downhill with a few rollers. I did not take advantage of the downhills as much as I could. The potholes were well marked but most were filled with water so you couldn't see if it was a pothole or just a puddle. My bike was sliding around the first few miles. I'm thankful I had my jacket, ear warmers & Sziols sunglasses on. The Sziols are polarizing so I was able to wear them in the rain and still see. Did my best to thank every volunteer out there. I know I missed 6. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I was fine not pushing. Transition 2
Comments: Stopped at the pott-o-pottie on the way out. Run
Comments: The run was fun. I saw a lot of my tri-teammates out there and the coach cheering us on. It makes it more enjoyable to high-five the people I know. I got up to one of them in the last mile (Sean) and passed him at the end. I followed my plan in regards to HR. 172-175 on the way out; 175-178 on the way back; all out once I get off the trail. What would you do differently?: Not have my training interrupted a month before the race for work. This was a PR for me. Post race
Warm down: Walk around; talk to teammates. Eat, eat, eat. What limited your ability to perform faster: My focus on the swim; the weather on the bike; nothing on the run. Event comments: Big party atmosphere at the end. The bag pickup was very disorganized this year. All-in-all well run race. I will do it again. Last updated: 2009-10-12 12:00 AM

Setup T2. Rode bus to T1 with Tommy (ZiaCyclist) & Kenny. Setup T1. This is a point to point race. Wandered around looking at the pro's bikes, the water, & chit-chatting.
Putting on the wetsuit. I did this fairly early just to stay warm.
