Sore hams and quads. Calves were surprisingly good.
What would you do differently?:

Hold back more during the 1st half and be ready for that last 7km.
Post race
Warm down:

Just focused on walking 2k back to hotel. Nice to use hotel shower and relax before heading out to meet family. However a nap would have been nice. Remember in future to never book commitments or appointments after a race.

Event comments:

Race kit was sad. Just a lot of paper; could have added some goodies.
2nd half of course along Leslie Spit was very ugly and depressing.
Post race food was sad. Just dry bagel and water; how hard is it to put out some bananas?

Course: 1st half of course was a nice out and back along Lakeshore drive. Fun and lots of waving, cheering, etc while passing all the 1/2Mary runners that started after us. Then out under the Gardiner expressway and turned out onto the Leslie spit (narrow out&back service road). Man the spit is ugggggly. It is not normally open to the public because it is only used by trucks hauling garbage out to the dock (I think). The spit went on forever. Just when you thought you could see the turnaround ahead, it was just another curve in the uglyness landscape. Even on the way back when you pass the 30k mark and think its over, you still have another 5k of uglyness before you get to the beaches. Coming off the spit, we were on track to finish 4:15-4:25. Unfortuately we ran too hard on the beaches because of the relief of being off the spit. Gloria's calves cramped without warning. We ended up doing a very sad painfull walk/run for those last 7k. Enjoyed seeing the 40k marker (1st time ever). Gloria put on a brave push when we turned onto the finish leg and crossed the line running with smiles on our faces.
