Age Group Rank = 16/26
Pre-race routine:

stayed up a little too late and didn't feel like I slept much. Alarm at 4:30; my regular race breakfast of Cheerios and a yogurt smoothie; out the door before 5:30 and arrived at the park before 6 but the regular parking area was full and I had to park a loooong way away.
Event warmup:

tried to keep Jenny calm while waiting for the relay wave (last wave)
Swim
  • 39m 44s
  • 1000 meters
  • 03m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

Jenny was hoping to be done in 30 minutes; it was nerve-wracking waiting those extra 10 minutes wondering if she was actually going to finish.

this was only Jenny's second ever OWS so she was quite nervous (she had even purchased a SwimSafe and wore it for the race); although she missed her goal time she gained a huge amount of confidence
Transition 1
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

since this was a relay I was ready and waiting (and waiting) at our spot in TA; as soon as I had the chip I was off and running up that damn hill to bike out
What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 1h 03m 13s
  • 17.5 miles
  • 16.61 mile/hr
Comments:

this was the hardest I've ever gone on this route and I had a blast! It was so much fun riding this with traffic control waving me through all the corners and lights. My mantra was "leave no bike unpassed" and I didn't
What would you do differently?:

I really flubbed the bike mount and lost a bit of time; I'd love to learn a running mount
Transition 2
  • 00m 40s
Comments:

there's a decent hill down from bike in to the relay racks and it was pretty hard to run it in bike shoes but I did it pretty darn fast; almost lost the bike and was practically carrying it the last part. We got the chip transferred to David and he was gone!
Run
  • 25m 27s
  • 3.4 miles
  • 07m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

David was sure he could bring this home around 22 minutes, but he had never seen the course and underestimated the hills and the heat; still, 5th overall? Awesome!
What would you do differently?:

get David to practice the route
