Run
Comments: Felt good throughout. Course was VERY windy going upriver, but got it at our backs a bit on the way back. Lots of sand being blown around at points.... My goal was maybe a little conservative as I hoped to finish at BQ pace or 7:23 per mile. I used my Garmin training partner to set at that pace, but was well above that pace from the onset. Once I hit mile 10, and I was still feeling quite good, I picked up the pace and finished pretty strong - leaving it all "out there". Passed 4 or 5 runners on the way in. What would you do differently?: Get there earlier... Shrimp fettuccini alfredo doesn't really count as a good carb load meal, I guess. It sat in my stomach all night, and I didn't get much sleep... blah... Even felt it sitting there during the race - Stick with pasta and red sauce. Looks like I can set my goals for a quicker pace. Post race
Warm down: Jogged/speed walked/ stumbled back to my car. It was chilly without extra clothes - next year, take advantage of the bag drop-off. What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor night's sleep. Alfredo sauce... Little - to zero 1/2 marathon specific training. Been simply out jogging since honeymoon. Event comments: Excellent race. Awesome volunteers! Favorite was Spider man zapping everyone that went by. Photos thanks to JimRhoades.com and coolrunning.com Last updated: 2005-10-17 12:00 AM
