Swim
Comments: The swim was the one area I was hoping for some improvement from previous races but I guess this one wasn't to be it. The water was a little cold and I didn't mind it too much until the first bouy and somehow I lost my swim cap. I was surprised how much that little cap helped me stay warm. What would you do differently?: Still trying to figure that out. Transition 1
Comments: I'm ok with T1. Said hi to Joe Bike
Comments: No real surprises and fully expected what was coming. My only real plan was to stay relaxed and prepare for the run. I pushed only as hard as I thought was necessary. The first lap was fun since the sprinters and faster swimmers (most everyone) was ahead of me and that gave me some motivation to pass people. The second loop was a different story. I couldn't see anyone ahead me and my motivation started to dwindle. I just enjoyed the great weather and scenery on the loop back. I wasn't too aggressive on the cornering and down hills. My only surprise the the bee sting on my leg on the way back to T2. I was in a good mental zone until then :) Transition 2
Comments: Non eventful except rubbing out the bee sting. Run
Comments: Ran out of transition and tried to prepare myself for the hill. Plodded up the hill to the aide station and grabbed a cup of water. I was looking for a rhythm and found one at the turn around. Thanked the volunteer for the much needed cold water and started back to the finish. Ounce again, I found myself with no way to catch the guy ahead since he was maybe 3/4 mile ahead and felt confident no one was going to catch me so I set settled in and enjoyed the run like it was a training run. Post race
Warm down: Chatted with BT friends and waited for Kim to come across the finish line. This was my first race that I have considered a 'B' race. I'm not used to pacing or holding back at a race before but this had to be one of the more enjoyable races because of it. The weather was fantastic and all of the wild flowers are blooming making the course gorgeous. BT was also well represented making it a lot of fun to see friendly faces out there. What limited your ability to perform faster: Considering this an 'A' race instead of 'B' race and really pushing it. Didn't see the need to do that considering St. George is around the corner. Packed the car with the gear and bikes. WillP came by and caravaned to the lake.
We got to race with plenty of time to spare. We took this time to chat with friends. It was nice to be able to relax and enjoy myself before a race. I didn't have any expectations set for this race and that made it very nice.
