Pre-race routine:

Got up at 4am. Stretched, ate some peanut butter and a bannana. Went for a brisk walk then a light 1 mile jog. I live 90 miles north of Wildwood NJ. Had to drive down by myself. For some reason family didn't see the need to get up at 5am.
Event warmup:

Stretch, walk, 1 mile light run. Once in Wildwood I got on the bike to warm up on that after my 90 min drive.
Swim
  • 11m 26s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

My first swim in a triathlon ( my 3rd ever tri) that was in the ocean. Felt very weird. Really choppy surf, with some wind gusts. I stuck to back stroke and really made good time compared to the rest of the pask. I saw some either switch from freestyle to back stroke taking my lead.
Transition 1
  • 02m 31s
Comments:

The transition area was in a sandy parking lot. The sand down there is like talcum (sp) powder. It was everywhere!! Had to take extra 30 secs to brush off the sand before I could get in my shoes. If I didn't it was going to be like sandpaper in there.

What would you do differently?:

Suck it up more and push myself at the first and last mile. Rest on mile 2.

Course: A really fun course. The main lengths ran across the wind. So I figured if I hugged the cars and house on one side I could avoid alot of it. Some were in the middle of the road subjecting themselves to the wind. A simple turn around at one end. At the northend the course made its way around some residential houses. 2 loops and then back to transition.
