Swim
Comments: Easy swim. I staying in control, did not allow the HR to run up and stayed within myself. No stopping at any time. I got a flick from my hamstring as I was running into the water at the start. Preview of coming events! I sighted ok, but did get a little wide on the up leg. Not bad, but time is time. Time trial start, so I swam by myself for the most part. What would you do differently?: I think I could have pushed a little more without going deep. I am not sure I would change anything given the situation. Transition 1
Comments: I finally did the rubber bands on the shoes. I will not go back. I was out of the rack space quickly. Speed suit came off quickly. What would you do differently?: Run a little harder to the bike. There was about 15 seconds or so that could have been clawed back. Bike
Comments: This was a very good, controlled bike. I felt very good about the effort. I had a few bad patches, but they passed quickly. I yo-yoed with a few people in the first 8 miles, then left them. Hit another pack and did the same. I got passed by a few, but not too many. It did not bother me. In the last 4 miles, I got passed by a guy and gal who were hauling. I decided to stay with them and held them at a very high MPH, but stayed relaxed. It was nice to let someone else set the pace and just shut down the brain. I think I messed up the nutrition. I did one gel, but planned on two. I drank most of my bottle. What would you do differently?: Not much. I was on pace and made good decisions. I should have taken in the second GU. Transition 2
Comments: As we were coming into T2, we slowed down to the hop off. As I reach my leg over the saddle, my hamstring jumped HARD. Oh shit. I had to walk to my slot. Hamstrings started to alternately flick. I kept my head, changed and headed out slowly. What would you do differently?: I made the right decision to slow down. I would have been under 1 minute otherwise. Run
Comments: I tried to start running and the wheels feel off right away. My hamstrings started to lock up. I slowed down and tried to let them settle down. At 1 mile, the right one locked out and I fell down. It was that sudden and hard. I was in pain and laying on the path. The course people did not know what to do. A team mate came up on me and stopped. He decided to let his race go and help me. WOW. He settled my panic down and got me on my feet. I walked for 100 yards until they stopped jumping. We did the IM shuffle for a mile and things were getting better. We ran some for the next few. At mile 5, they jumped hard on me again. I had to walk for 100 yards. My team mate stayed with me the whole time. He was talking about non-sense trying to keep my mind off the issues. What a great guy. I really owe him. We jogged out the final .5. What would you do differently?: I pushed my sick body hard and it pushed back. This does not reflect my ability, so I am not going to get down on my time. Just bad timing for getting sick. Frustrating, yes, absolutely. Post race
Warm down: Drank some G-aid and downed a banana for the potassium (i.e. stop the cramps). Talked with my other brother Darrell. He had a bit of bad luck with the bike. Good to get to talk with him a little about things in general. It took me a long time to gather and pack my stuff. I was moving slowly and feeling worse by the minute. I really like this race. I am disappointed that I did not get to enjoy the day more. What limited your ability to perform faster: sick. Last updated: 2010-04-02 12:00 AM

Woke up at 4:30 and was feeling really rough. Congestion was back, my head was splitting and I could not get the engine going. Few cups of coffee and things seemed to get going.
Setup T, and did some swimming to loosen up the shoulders. I felt really good. The water was a good temp. I was thinking "maybe I am not that sick."
