Swim
Comments: I STILL panicked at the swim start and my "compact" stroke was abandoned to what was more comfortable after only 60yds or so (as soon as I felt 02 taxation SLIGHTLY). It's a feeling I HAVE to get over. I went out too fast and LUCKILY swam up on the lady in front of me. I was getting 02 deprived (or, FELT like I was) and switched to breastroke to draft off her. At the wall, she let me by (I wish she wouldn't have!....lol). I went back to crawl and was panicked, again. I swam fast and caught the next person (3 people in a row). I, again, switched to breaststroke and drafted them to the wall. 2 of them let me by at the wall....and I raced to pass the other before the next wall. From there, I crawled the rest of the course. But, I was REALLY happy to see the wading section/exit area. I'm not sure how much further I could have gone without switching strokes. To the spectators (who I was self-conscious about), it probably just looked (I HOPE!) like I wasn't gassed....and just waiting for an opportune time to pass (when I was breastroking). To ME...it was a WELCOME change in the pace. My panicking was self-induced (of course)....and the way things unfolded could NOT have worked out better for me. It saved me having to switch to a stroke I didn't want to do (sidestroke). All in all.....I probably breastroked (right on others feet) about 1.5 lengths (of 12.5). What would you do differently?: Work on my conditioning. The feeling of panick is just something I'm gonna have to experience and conquer. Being in better condition will hopefully make my anxiousness to the swim less and less of an issue. Transition 1
Comments: No real issues, here. There was a LONG run to the timing mat. I'm not actually sure how they timed this. I was a little light-headed, trying to get my right sock on. But, I felt like I did pretty well in T1. No real issues. They didn't rank us in T1 or T2. But, I checked the field and I was ranked 27th/297 in T1 (3rd in my AG). What would you do differently?: Nothing. My transitions in my 2 tris have gone really well. Bike
Comments: I realized at about mi. 4-5.....I forgot to pump up my tires!....lol Oh well! What would you do differently?: Nothing. I had a wonderful ride FOR ME. Transition 2
Comments: No ranking by timing group. But, I checked and my T2 time was 19th/297 overall....and 2nd/21 in my AG. I don't have a lot of room for improvement, here. What would you do differently?: Not one thing. ONLY hting I could do differently is run faster to the timing mat.....and that's not in my best interest, currently. Run
Comments: I played it just right for my fitness level, I think. I "maybe" could have pushed it a little more at the beginning. But, I knew those hills were looming....and I'm still new at all this. I did have more left at the end (after the last climb) than I thought I would....and ran a pretty good clip to the tunnel. The tunnel was GREAT! It was an awesome finishing experience (announcing your name as you came through). What would you do differently?: At this point.....NOTHING. Run more? I'm 2-2 on riding the edge in my races and NOT blowing up. I wouldn't do a thing differently, if they let me run it over. Post race
Warm down: Beer (see a trend?). Pizza. Milled around with my wife and talked to some friends while I re-hydrated. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just my overall fitness level and my swimming. Swimming is my limiter in time and overall attitude towards tris, currently. Event comments: The event couldn't have been better run. It was very professional. And, I thanked everyone involved, profusely. It was top-notch. Last updated: 2010-04-11 12:00 AM

Same as before....just get there early and try not to forget anything (which I did)!
None, really. I tried to swim a little. But, it only made me more nervous.
