Swim
Comments: I was wholly unprepared for an ocean swim and knew it. I secretly hoped it would be easy, but alas, it wasn't. I spent much of this swim back stroking, which is a shame, swimming is my best of the events. On a plus side I did awesome buoy turns (all 2 of them). What would you do differently?: Rent a sleeveless wetsuit! Between the buoyancy of the salt water and the buoyancy of the wetsuit I was fighting my arms down in the water. I've used full suits before, but from now on I'll keep them to the fresh water. My arms tired soooo quickly, which is most of the reason I ended up back stroking. If I could find a way to do it, more practice swimming in the ocean, finding a grove being tossed around in waves and current was something I just need to practice. Transition 1
Comments: I have to admit, I walked up that sand dune, I was still tired from fighting with the ocean. Bike
Comments: I'm mildly happy with my pace. I was hoping for 16 mph or better. I got passed a lot, which I'm used to, but only passed other people twice, which is low. Still riding my hybrid, so I'm hoping for better times when I get up to speed on my new road bike. Transition 2
Comments: Almost ran out of transition with my bike gloves on AGAIN. Remembered at the last second and ran them back--luckily the transition area was small. Run
Comments: Was great to run around the campground, lots of spectators around to cheer. I felt like I was running really slowly and was surprised at the number of people I passed walking. Perhaps they burnt themselves out passing my slow self on the run :). Post race
Warm down: Nothing great, just walked around transition. Event comments: Event started 10 minutes late to give people a chance to walk to the start line. I was ok with that, and to be honest glad the swim didn't go the other direction where I'd have to run 1/2 mile in the sand with a wetsuit on back to transition. Last updated: 2010-04-28 12:00 AM

Woke up around 5am, made a protein shake and a bagel and headed out.
First, getting on my wetsuit, then having to get it on again after I realized it was backwards. Then 1/2 mile walk in said wetsuit to the start line. Sophisticated warm up, I know!
