Swim
Comments: The swim was ok, I felt some fatigue in the arms from Saturday's swim workout at the National Training Center but that's ok, the intent was this event to be a training event. Settled in after the start, had the wetsuit on which helped. The only issue was this guy who kept zig zagging in front of me for most of the 2 final legs...I didn't have the energy to pass him so he kept cutting me off. I'll bet he swam an extra mile with all that back & forth! Transition 1
Comments: The transition was different from previous events, a much longer run from the swim to the opposite end of the transition area. A little trouble with the wetsuit but no rush here. Bike
Comments: I tried to push as much as I could, limited somewhat from the previous day's 40 mile training ride in the Clermont hills..had some minor back spasms from the climbs. A couple of guys clocked the course at 26 miles, I got 25.85 on my Garmin which is usually off by about a tenth of a mile Transition 2
Run
Comments: Started off at decent pace, at mile 2 was about to explode looking for a spot to take a leak. Finally found a place in the woods to dash into & take care of natures call which cost me a minute or two. The good news is that I was obviously hydrated. About mile 4 the legs started feeling fatigue but that wasn't unexpected, other than a day off Friday, I had a normal training week without any kind of taper. Although one of the slowest runners I never felt like I was going to bonk just had some tired wheels so I feel good about the run effort. What would you do differently?: Nothing, this race was part of the training plan for the Disney 1/2 in May. Post race
Warm down: Got some water & a plate of food. Got a chance to talk with Kendall & then had to hustle to check out of the hotel by noon. What limited your ability to perform faster: I've said it already, this race was part of my Disney 1/2 training plan, so obviously the legs & arms are more fatigued than usual. Event comments: Another very well run race by Fred Sommers. The weather cooperated and was beautiful even a little hot by the time we hit the run course. It was a good weekend of training, I rode some hills on Saturday that I haven't done in in several months. I also got a chance to visit & swim at the National Training Center, a great facility for triathlon training. Last updated: 2006-01-06 12:00 AM
