Total Time = 5h 49m 2s
Overall Rank = 484/1321
Age Group = 45-49
Age Group Rank = 63/136
Pre-race routine:

up early 3am. cliff bar, banana, OJ, mixed up drinks. stretched
Event warmup:

warmup beach run, and swim
Swim
  • 40m 6s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
Comments:

aggressive people!! definitely the hardest swim I've done not due to distance, but due to people grabbing, pushing, clawing, elbowing, kicking, and general lame behavior. I'm pretty used to tri's now, and it normally isn't that bad, but this was.
What would you do differently?:

don't wear tinted goggles that will change the color of the buoys making them near invisible !!
Transition 1
  • 07m 48s
Comments:

I have no idea how it got to be this long in T1. I fumbled around with trying to apply sunscreen, probably that was it...and such a long run out of the corral. people ahead really slow which blocked me.
What would you do differently?:

dial in the sunscreen process
Bike
  • 2h 52m 53s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.44 mile/hr
Comments:

serious gusts up by Hawi. even though coming back downhill was fast, the gusts were dangerous and could've knocked me over. I held on for dear life.

bike pace was good, I probably could've pushed a bit harder...leave that for next year. this course was hard due to the heat, hills and wind.
What would you do differently?:

push harder
Transition 2
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

ok transition...just a bit slow
Run
  • 2h 05m 40s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

tough course. twisty turny golf course grass and cement paths, hills, with asphalt roads. heat was just like being in an oven. I thought I smelled BBQ and realized it was ME ! haha. Generally felt ok, but the heat just wastes you. Great course though
What would you do differently?:

try to run through all the rest stops
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, ate. tried to avoid my thighs from going into spastic mode.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

inexperience with HIM mainly.

Event comments:

really a great experience. looking forward to the next time already.
