Swim
Comments: If I had raced AG: 3/18. I had a good swim. I felt strong, long, and lean. I was more towards the front this year and it was nice to not be bogged down my a million slow swimmers. I think the course may have been marked longer than what it was listed. I was pretty distraught when I first saw my swim time, but I was in the top 12.5% overall so it seems I did as great on the swim as I felt. What would you do differently?: Nothing, the swim felt great. Although, the next thing that I'm going to work on is decreasing my SPL (strokes per length). Transition 1
Comments: No separate T1 time. Both transitions are included in the bike. But, the transition felt pretty smooth. I had a little bit of trouble with my socks. I decided not to do the fling mount as the roads were wet from rain all night the night before. What would you do differently?: I need to practice putting socks on wet feet. Bike
Comments: If I had raced AG: 4/18. I really pushed hard on the bike and felt pretty good. The roads were incredibly flat so I didn't really need to change gears much. It was a super short bike leg and it felt like it was over in a flash. If you subtract out a reasonable transition time like 2 min for both, my bike would have been shorter than my run. I was hoping for a bit shorter bike time, but I think the sinus infection affected my cardio a bit. What would you do differently?: Not get sick. Ha. Transition 2
Comments: Did the flying dismount (is that the right word? It's more like a stepping dismount). Quickly ran in changed shoes and went. As I was running out of transition, for some reason I thought the run out was different than the swim in so I was like yelling "WHERE'S RUN OUT!?" It wasn't until I passed the run out a volunteer said, "It's right here" - even though I had shouted like 3 times already. (Notice: they don't have any signs up!) So I was kinda annoyed and made a smart remark about how glad I was that the exit was clearly marked. I felt bad later because it's not like it was her fault. And I'm the one who chose to do this race even though I did it last year and I knew how disorganized it was. What would you do differently?: Pay more attention before the race and know where my entrances and exits are. Not yell at the volunteer. -Bad Rachael- Run
Comments: If I had raced AG: 10/18. So, as expected, I had a really slow run. It didn't help anything that my stomach started aching again. But I didn't feel horrible just a bit uncomfortable. I just did what I could and didn't worry about it. My run endurance is coming back slowly but surely. In the last ~150 yards I really busted a gut sprinting. I love the looks people give me when they see me hustling so hard. I really thought I might barf past the finish line. But I didn't. :) What would you do differently?: Not be sick and not get injured so that I have to take 6 weeks off. Haha! Post race
Warm down: Stretch, food, awards ceremony. What limited your ability to perform faster: The previously mentioned stuff: sinus infection and the foot injury. Last updated: 2010-07-06 12:00 AM

If I had raced AG: 3/18.
Up at 4:15! :0 Out the door on time. I had a couple of Zone Bars for breakfast. I love those things. Stopped at a McDonald's just before the race site so hubby could eat and I could use the bathroom before getting to portapoty land. Waited in all the random lines to get all the stuff I needed (extremely disorganized race). Got my transition area set up and I was down at the beach and ready to get started by the 7am start time. Too bad the race didn't start until 7:30 (crazy disorganization!) My stomach started hurting (probably because of the antibiotics) so I couldn't take my last GU before the race started.
Just some dynamic stretching on the beach.
