Pre-race routine:

Woke up very early (3:45am).... Started drinking water & taking care of "business"....Had a 1/2 cup of oats, 1/2 banana, scoop of chocolate protein, tablespoon of peanut butter, cup of McDonald's brew... Showed up @ the race @ 5:20am.... Got my number... relaxed in my car... Around 6:30am I ended the conversations & went for a run... Ran only a 1/4 of a mile
Run
  • 23m 40s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 37s  min/mile
Comments:

My take on the first run is start @ the very back & take it ez with a nice even 7:30 splits.... I felt like that pushing the first run doesn't set me up for a good bike... goal Accomplished!!!!
What would you do differently?:

I hate starting out fast only to get passed by faster runners... Mentally speaking it doesn't do anything for me.... Figured this race I would pass slower runners by starting @ the back of the pack... This cost a few seconds on my overall time. The benefits out weigh the loss of time
Transition 1

Comments:

Had some issues clicking into my shoes... Need to practice having my shoes locked into the pedals & jumping on... I keep telling myself this

Comments:

What would you do differently?:

train more... Only trained about 8 months in the last 2 years
Transition 2

Comments:

Comments:

Thought I could avg. 7:30's for this run ha ha ha.... Spent the rest of the run getting passed by those I caught on bike portion.... Good times

Saw Pete coming back about a 1/4 mile before I hit the turnaround.... Dude was looking strong

At the end of the race I would SWEAR that someone was trying to pass me at the finish (or as I would say going "Jones" one me ha ha sorry Jones)... So I started sprinting as hard as I could.... Only to ask my wife & Pete if they noticed someone trying to overtake me @ the line.... No one was trying to pass me... Odd
What would you do differently?:

not sure.... I think it's just a matter of time before I can run a 6:xx for the first run & 7:xx for the 2nd run... it's all good...

Post race
Warm down:

My wife found me to shade & babied me :)

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Temps in the upper 80's.... 15 mph headwind of the south...

Event comments:
