Run
Comments: Thought OK I can do this. Gradual up hill hurt me some. No shin pain Huh! Ran the whole course. Held a little back. What would you do differently?: Start farther back in pack to run my own pace and pass a few people. Transition 1
Comments: Went smooth, except that the clip got stuck on the rack. What would you do differently?: Practice getting into clipped pedals. Figured it would be easy, NOT. Bike
Comments: Got tied up with some slower biker in big S. Had good desent to get stuck behind a MTB. What would you do differently?: Clipless pedals or deeper clipped with tie ins. Transition 2
Comments: Quick and easy. Run
Comments: Had a little drink. Ran with a lady behind me for a little push. Tried to lay off a little. Even walked one up hill 30-50 yds. No shin pain. Back was acting up some. Got passed by some youngster. Youth is so wasted on the young. What would you do differently?: Walk to start. Transition 3
Comments: Sucked some Gu down. Changed water bottles. Wind still strong. What would you do differently?: Felt good. Not much. Bike
Comments: Rode with a runner type guy, for a while. Then he got a little bit ahead and took a short cut by "mistake". What would you do differently?: Clipless Transition 4
Comments: Smooth What would you do differently?: Drink some more. Run
Comments: Out there alone the moon just coming up. The sun down. No one around. Like the lava fields of Kona. The place was empty. Yoshi returned to finish with the boys. What would you do differently?: Run more. Post race
Warm down: Walked around, drank two bottles of water. Finished gatoraide. Packed bike and got Yoshi and the boys on the way. Met up with Marmadaddy and got hamburg, hotdog and tator salad. Peed and got on the rode to Kueka. What limited your ability to perform faster: Possible heart trouble (OK'ed before race by PCP). Not training hard d/t shin splints. More training in tight clipped pedals. Event comments: It was great that Yhoshi and the boys came. I got to see them almost every lap bike and run. Mike was at the bike at off track exit so I had a great cheering section. Yoshi was put off by the lead guys as they didn't care or aknowledge any cheering for them at all. They left before most athletes finished. When it get to be that intense to get a plaque or ribbon give it up and go back to work. Remember the fans and the volunteers. You can't be that wrapped up in the race to not enjoy it. If anything derails this sport it will be the lack of caring by the elite athletes for the fans and novice Tri'er. Don't get me wrong lots of the elite athletes care, but after volunteering it wasn't until 10-15 riders went by, the leaders, until one thanked us or aknowledge our cheering. Had regular day. No work out. Drank. Packed to race and volunteering at Kueka Tri. Packed Yoshi, Willie and Zack and drove to event. 1-1/2 hours. Got there 1-1/2 hour early to looked at the wrecked Porcshes and met up with Mike.
Set up transition area. Discuss use of clip vs clipless. Didn't think that out in a timely manner. Decided to go with the toe clips. Took one lap of the track. Of course the first 50 feet my shoe lace got stuck in the chain. Lucky me no one around to see that. The track was fun to ride. I came to a NASCAR event so it was cool to be on it. There was a300 degree turn exiting the track. Mike did point this out but on the first time through I didn't slow enough and scraped ny knuckles on the divider and tipped it over. Of course that was in front of everybody. Parked teh bike and stretched and walked around.
