Run
Comments: Teeth chattering with rain and wind before I started and cool for about 1st mile. Warmed up after that. A few downpours and a few minutes of just sprinkling, but mostly fairly steady light rain. Felt great from miles 2-8 and was pleasantly surprised to be having a great time and feeling good. Up to mile 10 followed my plan of jogging to the mile marker, walking 1 minute, repeat. Swigged some Gatorade on odd mile walks, ate 4sports beans on even mile walks. Had a hideous mile 10 with knee pain, a blister, and a generally poor attitude. Got much better with more fan support and team members at the end. A lovely team member from MN who wasn't doing the race ran much of mile 12 with me helping tremendously. What would you do differently?: Get in ALL my training runs! This was my first 1/2 mary and my primary goal was to finish and secondary goal was to finish under 3 hr. Post race
Warm down: Immediately wrapped up in the mylar blanket as I cooled down VERY quickly when I wasn't exerting myself and I was soaking wet and it was windy. Stretched my calves and quads. Grabbed some food (they had an entire chocolate station with candy in plastic gloves!), headed home with the heated seat on and hopped into a warm bubble bath to sip some gatorade. What limited your ability to perform faster: Skipping too many training runs. Event comments: Note: gummy bears are not a good on-course food. They are a pain to chew when running and look so sad squished on the road. Fabulous, exciting, well organized race. Jeff Galloway started us! Folks from all 50 states and 29 countries. Melon and bread with pb for breakfast.
Took a quick team pic. Stood in the pouring rain and gusting wind in my corral for 1/2 hour.
