Swim
Comments: It took me until I reached the first buoy to settle into a rhythm, but it finally happened so I was happy with that. Passed a few from the waves in front of me which probably boosted my spirits too. Not too much contact. This was my first full swim in a wetsuit and that went well. My sighting was really good until the last buoy when I drifted slightly off course, but not too bad. Transition 1
Comments: Pretty good here. I did take the time to put on both a shirt (it was a cool day and I thought I'd be cold in my tank) and socks. Took a drink before leaving as well. I did forget to put on my sunglasses as I'd left them on my handlebars rather than in my helmet, and I wound up dropping and losing them. Bike
Comments: Loved this course - can't believe I was dreading the hills. They really added to my enjoyment of the course. My time really seemed too good to be true when I finished, though I had no idea what to expect on account of the hills. The posted results indicate the course was 2.5km short. Mystery solved! What would you do differently?: Practise gear changes - I had some lags in my gears changing, not sure why but something to work on. Also need to work on corners/turns at higher speed. Transition 2
Comments: Stopped for a drink here as well. Just taking my time and enjoying it. Run
Comments: I did this slower than I'd hoped but I was pretty taxed getting off the bike after the hills, and the run course was hilly, and I am actually surprised that I did it as fast as I did under those circumstances! Walked through the water stations just to get something down but otherwise ran the whole thing and finished comfortably. Post race
Warm down: My 'secret goal time' was 1:45 so I was all smiles when I crossed the finish line in just over 1:31! Even knowing now that the course was slightly short, I still would have finished well below that goal had it been full length. So I am really pleased that I went out to have fun, had fun, AND did a really great job! Great post-race buffet with fruit, bagels, pop, chicken dogs, etc. But we had other plans for the day and needed to get away quickly, so I grabbed some fruit and a drink and we packed up pretty quickly. Event comments: Loved this race. Loved the location, the course, the setup, etc. I am already looking forward to coming back next year. Last updated: 2010-08-05 12:00 AM

I'd spent the entire week before my first tri this summer stressed out about it. For this race I just wanted to go and have fun. I had a goal time in the back of my mind but wasn't thinking about it on the course... I just wanted to enjoy myself and set the bar so that I had a base time for a sprint distance and could then work at lowering it. I was nervous up until the morning of the race, but once we arrived at the venue I really did stop being nervous and just start having fun.
Up at 5:45, ate toast with peanut butter and some OJ, brought a banana in the car. Left the house ~6:20 a.m., but it did not take quite as long to get to the venue as we'd thought.
None. Got in the water to acclimatize a bit to the temp but didn't swim at all.
