Pre-race routine:

Well, let's see. I got up at 4AM and drove to Pensacola Beach. Got my packet, gear, body marked and set up transition. Then I just pretty much hung out until it was time to head to the water. This was my first race in about 3 years so I just went into it super chilled out and ready to have a good time, which I did!

When I opened my packet I noticed my race number was 666. OH NO THE MARK OF THE BEAST!
Event warmup:

I kept my sweatpants and long sleeved shirt on as long as possible.
Swim
  • 09m 5s
  • 536 meters
  • 01s / 100 meters
Comments:

Pretty uneventful swim. I met up with a buddy of mine right before the start who ended up riding my draft the whole time haha. How do I know? Because he said he was going to and I could feel his hands brush my feet the whole time. However, I'd be faster than him anyway, there was no holding back on his part.

I caught 2 of the waves ahead of me at the last buoy and the turn into shore was a big zig-zaggy as I weaved through people.

Time includes run up the beach into T1.

I guess the beast only like to come out in the water haha.
What would you do differently?:

Nada.
Transition 1
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

This was a little hectic. No wetsuit to take care of so all I really had to do was get my shoes and helmet on and grab my bike. My chain ring got caught up on my bag that was under it and since I was right next to the support post on the inside end of the rack my pedal/crank got caught on there making getting my bike out a bit of a pain.
What would you do differently?:

Not much I could do differently. The rack was a bit crowded so I had to do some consolidation and store some of my gear directly under my bike, which got caught up. Whatever.
Bike
  • 54m 46s
  • 18 miles
  • 19.72 mile/hr
Comments:

Hmm, well my bike computer read 18.5 miles which would have given me a 20.27 avg, but whatever. The headwind was pretty strong on the way out but I felt pretty good and passed a lot of people. I never got uncomfortable or started to hurt in my legs, just kept cranking. At the turn around the wind was more tail/cross and I threw it in a big gear and just flew home, feeling good the whole time.
Transition 2
  • 01m 54s
Comments:

Pretty average. I don't have lock laces on my shoes anymore so it took some time to tie them.
Run
  • 23m 39s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 36s  min/mile
Comments:

Headed out on the run feeling pretty decent and trying to maintain my form. I got passed a bit but it's cool. I felt like I kept a good pace considering my lack of real run training.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit, had a banana, water, Gatorade, beer, Carraba's post race party.

Event comments:

Like I said earlier, this was my first race in almost 3 years. Although it was a sprint, I am feeling pretty good going into IMFL and IMCOZ. Really glad I decided to get out and race again. I had a great time.
