Swim
Comments: Felt good going in the water. Dove under a few good-sized waves heading out then was past the break area. Paced myself well. Felt great out there. I started to come out of the water during a break in swells so there were no waves to catch, boo! Slower than I expected but I wasn't pushing myself, just enjoying being out there. What would you do differently?: Nothing, just more practice swimming to get faster/stronger Transition 1
Comments: No problem locating my area at transition. Rinsed sand off my feet. Pulled on socks & shoes. Put sunglasses & helmet on, unracked bike and popped a couple Clif Shot Bloks on the move. What would you do differently?: Put a little more hustle into it. Bike
Comments: Headed out of T1 up Pier Ave to the 3-loop bike course up and down Ardmore/Valley. Some of the turns were pretty tight, and some of the road areas were fairly narrow which made for difficultly in passing other riders. Felt good overall, would have liked to go all-out a bit more but was being very cautious of others and wanted to avoid any potential mishaps. There were some rough road area and potholes to look out for. The uphill coming up Pier Ave wasn't bad and the downhill coming back was great. Good overall speed with moderate overall effort. What would you do differently?: Nothing. If the course were more wide-open I could've kicked into a higher speed for more of the race. Transition 2
Comments: Racked the bike, removed the helmet. Grabbed my race bib / bib belt and visor. Popped a couple more Clif Shot Bloks and took off. What would you do differently?: Hustle more. Run
Comments: The run is getting to be my least favorite part of tri's though it's the discipline I've had the most overall experience with. I just want to get through it and get it done. The "out" was the toughest part, just getting to the halfway point. Once I got there it was just the "back" and that was it. The most exciting part of the run was on the "back" when I saw the Beverly Hills 90210 beach house right in front of me with the blue awnings. Unfortunately there were no other runners near me with whom to share the excitement. :) I'm pleased with my run time though. What would you do differently?: Be more positive on the run. Post race
Warm down: Walked around for 10 minutes, mostly looking for hubby and the kiddo. Stretched. What limited your ability to perform faster: Experience. I'd only been "triathlon training" for 2.5 months at the time of the race. Event comments: Fun race, great for beginners. Bike course can be narrow at times, be careful when passing and alert others when you're passing/about to pass, slow riders stay to the right. Last updated: 2010-10-11 12:00 AM

Got my gear together, packed up the car, woke up the kiddo and headed up to the South Bay. Found a parking spot in one of the structures. Headed to set up transition, get marked up and listen to the mandatory pre-race meeting while hubby stood in line to pay for parking and watched the kiddo. Had a banana, water.
Walked on the beach for a bit, swam in the ocean for a few minutes. Played in the sand with the kiddo before finding a spot with my age group in the starting pack.
