Run
Comments: Unfortunately I had IT Band tendinitis flare up bad 3 weeks before the race, since this is my first season running I didn't recognize it quick enough ran 3 miles with it hurting and cause a lot of aggravation. After that point I could not run more than a mile without it flaring back up. Several days before the race I decided to go for it, I got a foam roller (thanks to the wonderful info on this site) and an IT band compression wrap. Between the two I was able to push out 4.6 miles before it flared back up bad enough I had to stop running. I basically powerwalked the rest with a couple of quarter mile runs mixed in. When the finish line came into view on capitol street I went for it, ignored the pain and sprinted the rest of the way. What would you do differently?: Pay way more attention to my pains and not push to hard and injure myself, I cant wait until the next when we I can be way more prepared and hopefully much close to 100% on race day. Post race
Warm down: Bottle of water, 1 cold beer (could no drink any more because of the anti-inflammatory meds, bummer) and some ice on the knee What limited your ability to perform faster: just the injury Event comments: This was my first Half Marathon, so I do not have much to base this on, but this race was awesome, between the people, the bands set up along the course and just the general atmosphere it was awesome. The course is brutal, there is no lying about that, but its fun and challenging. Last updated: 2010-10-26 12:00 AM

Got up around 5, ate a cliff bar so I could take my anti-inflammatories for my knee and drank a ton of water
not much, I injured my knee 3 weeks before the race, so I didn't really want to push it any before we got started
