Swim
Comments: Check out that rank!! Don't know how to draft without grabbing feet ('sides, I set my own pace), and I need to sight better with the breathing. The first half was great, but started to feel a little constricted toward the end. I was very happy with this swim, and felt really proud coming out of the water. As far as I could tell, I was the first or second in my wave out of the water, which is awesome. What would you do differently?: Get a sleeveless wetsuit for warm-weather swims!! Also - buy some cheap flip-flops to walk around in/leave at swim start. Hot, rough asphalt is no good for feet that have to run 3 miles later. Ouch!! Transition 1
Comments: T1 was long because my bike was on the farthest away from the swim exit it could have been. On the plus side, this made T2 fast, just because of distance. What would you do differently?: Run sooner when coming up out of the water. If I really have far to go to my stuff, I think I should take off the wetsuit first and run with it, instead of doing the run-waddle. Bike
Comments: I hammered a lot, coasted down the long hills. Went about how I expected. Seemed longer than I thought it would. Ate a carb gel at the turnaround. This was a good idea. Hydration also worked very well. Passed some people, got passed some. Had hoped to manage the gear shifts better. What would you do differently?: I need a different gear set -- there was too much coasting on the downs and my low gear isn't low enough. But at the end of the day, the trouble was a lack of bike training. I can fix that. Transition 2
Comments: Went so fast, I felt like I was forgetting to do something. What would you do differently?: Make sure running shoes are untied and prepped! Run
Comments: Well, that pace isn't as bad as I thought it was. My calves were VERY unhappy at the beginning, for almost the entire first mile. I told them to quit their whining. Got a good stride just before the turn around. Walked briefly through 2 water stations and once before final push. My hydration scheme seemed to work beautifully, and there was nowhere near bonking. In fact, I kept taking body-inventories and discovering that other than my calves, everything else was nominal. Fine, even! Cool!! Finished strong, sprinting, passed two people on the final straightaway. Saw Sally Edwards at the line and yelled "SAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLYYYYYY!!!!!" and got a major double-high-five and "You rock, girl!" from her. What would you do differently?: Actually, aside from the slow-ish pace, that went better than I expected! Maybe push harder sooner? Trust the hydration if the inventory comes back nominal? Post race
Warm down: Mostly just walked around, pouring water over head. Ate banana, bagel, and bottle of Cytomax. Hey, have I mentioned this yet? I'm a TRIATHLETE!!! What limited your ability to perform faster: HEAT. And not having any real gauge of how to pace myself. But mostly heat. Last updated: 2006-03-02 12:00 AM

Bag and trunk packed the night before. Up at 4. PB&J on wheat and one banana at home, started in on the cytomax and hydration.
Got to Arapahoe Park at 5 - one f-ing long hike into the venue. After transition setup, ate banana and granola bar. Jammed to ipod - the mix of mojo.
Walked several laps around transition area and then stretched out. Had to keep peeing -- I guess I was hydrated enough! Donned wetsuit about 7:15. Spent about 15 minutes in the warmup area in lake -- mostly to stay cool in the water.
