Swim
Comments: The pool swim was more hectic than I imagined it would be. As with traditional triathlons, I got kicked and swam over, etc (at least that's what I've been told happens!) My goggles filled with water, so I decided to swim primarily side stroke. It wasn't pretty, but got the job done! What would you do differently?: Swim like I train! Transition 1
Comments: T1 felt great...everything went as planned...thankfully! Bike
Comments: So not only was this my first triathlon, but I was on my mountain bike. This being said, I still felt I rode very well. This is the bike I've always ridden while training, so I'm happy to report my pace was a bit better than during training rides. What would you do differently?: Ready for my new road bike! Transition 2
Comments: T2 went smoothly, but like a dork, I forgot to take off my race number belt and zip up my tri top. What would you do differently?: Since we were headed to the pool for the final leg of the race (rather than heading out for the run), I would get my swim cap and goggles situated before stepping on the timing mat to head into the pool. Run
Comments: I started out a bit faster than my usual pace. It paid off in the end, but at certain points I was having a hard time getting a full breath. I dialed it back a bit, got into a good stride, and felt strong at the finish. What would you do differently?: I would definitely start out a bit slower and run the race at my pace. Post race
Event comments: I'm glad I chose this as my first triathlon. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, and I cannot wait until my next race. I was a little shocked that I finished in the top 20 of my age group. What a great confidence booster!! The event was well-organized, and the volunteers were friendly and well-informed. The course was well-marked and exactly as described on the organizer's website. Best part about it was the support from my hubby and kiddos! Last updated: 2010-11-30 12:00 AM

Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 20/70
This was my first tri, so I have no real "routine" yet. However, we made sure to get to the race early, so I was able to get a great spot on the end of a rack. I got all my gear out of my bag, set it up, checked it two or three times. Ok, now what? Lots of time to wait!
Since this was a reverse tri, and we were running first, I didn't do much to warm up. I stretched a lot, and thankfully this helped keep the butterflies away.
