Swim
Comments: Well I decide to go far left thinking that most of the crowd would stay in the middle and right - WRONG it just became a bunched up mess, and I was in the middle. I have to say, I got knocked around, at first I started laughing but realized I could not take it for the remainder of the swim. I moved across getting hit and knocked but got over to the right near the shore, wow what a difference, found a smooth lane and went to town - NOW - I did not feel it but my right Tricep was rubbing on my wetsuit and I was chaffing bad. Turn ahead and heading into the channel, was like bumper cars, really got hung up in the channel, hit the turn and out of the water. What would you do differently?: NO wetsuit !! I was hoping for a 1:10 but 1:17 not bad Transition 1
Comments: Great, just took my time to make sure I had everything. Put Vaseline on the Chaffing on both arms, burned like hell but said nothing is going to stop me today - headed out Bike
Comments: Really had a great ride, now if there is drafting it was happening on the first 50 miles, there were so many riders. Then the field thinned out and was single file all the way back in - I must say I nutted the nutrition on the ride, felt great the whole ride, thank you Hammer Nutrition. My wife and friends got me at mile 91, what a great site to see - but the longest 10 miles was when I turned on Woodlands PKWY, man that is a long 10 miles to the finish. Finally made the turn got off, handed my bike to the volunteer and off for the run What would you do differently?: Nothing felt great on the ride the whole time - wanted 19 on the bike so 18.5 fine, I wanted to be in transition before 3:00PM Transition 2
Comments: Wanted to run in my shorts and pulled off the tri shorts, grabbed my fuel belt headed out, got sun screen and off on the run What would you do differently?: Nothing, made sure I had everything Run
Comments: Ok, I tried to run a slow jog just to get into a smooth rhythm - well remember the wetsuit issue, my arms were rubbing on my tri top, had Vaseline on them but did not help, OUCH - started running with my arms out but I knew that was not going to happen for 26 miles - second my HR just jumped up to 165 - WOW the first mile, so I slowed down to a fast walk pace, hoping I could start a run at mile 5. Well, not going to happen, I knew I would not hit 7:00 pm mark and had to walk the rest of the route. Passed family and friends, told them I had to walk plan on a 8:30 finish. 2nd - 3rd loop - now blisters, really Ok, just keep walking I told myself you have two weeks to recover from a damn blister - kept moving counting the miles. Then at mile 25 it hit me, I was going to be a Ironman, came around and saw the finish. I must have hi-five everyone in the finish chute - came up heard you are a Ironman and knew it was over. What would you do differently?: I don't know - maybe do more runs in the afternoon in the heat Post race
Warm down: Got up with the family and friends walked back to transition to get bags and bike. Went back to the hotel and soaked in the tub. Really the only issues I had with my body were those $600 blisters. What limited your ability to perform faster: I must say the heat and humidity really hit me, train more in the afternoon for runs maybe ?? Last updated: 2010-12-29 12:00 AM

Up at 4:00am - had coffee, excited to get going - Had a bagel with Peanut Butter, and headed over about 4:30 to set up my bike, fastest setup I have ever done.
Had to walk to the swim so really that was the warm up - I debated about wearing a wetsuit (you know how they say never do anything new on race day, well I did, since I was smarter at this point, this comes back to haunt me) the water was really warm at 78 F degrees
Also - my athlete tracker GPS, worth every penny, family and friends tracked on line the whole day
