Swim
Comments: The swim waves were rushed, so I hadn't made it to the start and my heart was jumping when the horn went off. I could barely breathe for the first 100yds. Backstroked for a few seconds, got it under control, then had a good rest-of-the-swim. There was some contact as I was passing a bunch to catch up to the pack, but it was civilized. Navigation wasn't great, but not bad considering the current. What would you do differently?: Stay w/my swim wave in the chute; be mentally prepared for the cold water and the excitement of the start. Transition 1
Comments: Wetsuit strippers rock! Red carpet all the way from shore to transition was great too. It was a couple of blocks, so I just jogged it. No need to get the heartrate up over a few seconds in T1. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Great mount and good getting out on the highway. Headwind had me about 17.5mph to the turnaround. Some sketchy surface going under the bridge, but overall not bad. Tailwind on the back made it an easy ride. HR 150-155 on the way back, and falling off at times. Actually found myself racing some, which is fairly new on the bike. My calc says I held about 22.5mph on the way back. Happy w/that. What would you do differently?: Push harder in the tailwind. Chase more people in my AG who pass me. I actually did this once, then let off and got passed again. I should have held them off. Transition 2
Comments: Perfect dismount (I wear mtb shoes so I just unclip and run), easy shoe change. My fastest T2 yet. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: This is both a triathlon PR and a disappointing run for me. I put in a lot of miles over the winter, and secretly wanted a sub 9-minute pace, which I just missed. I did improve over my last tri though, so I am glad to see progress. What would you do differently?: Run harder. I didn't have any real pain, but I was trying to conserve during the 1st 2 miles. I think I could have pushed a little harder. I was wheezing at the end, though. Post race
Warm down: Walk around, talk to some friends and family. Get some food, water, and beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: Overall fitness, mental readiness at the swim start. I have done lots of OWS practice, and am comfortable in the water, but I did not focus properly at the start. I am also still figuring out how fast I can afford to go on the bike w/out hurting my run. Event comments: This is my 3rd tri, but I have also done a du and and a few running races. This was the best so far. Great venue, volunteers, awesome police presence on the bike course, post-race food and beer. A+ all around. THANKS!!! Last updated: 2011-01-24 12:00 AM

Get up, get dressed drink a Coke, eat a Clif bar, drive to race venue. Park in garage, unload, check tires, walk to bodymarking.
Set up transition, walked around, talked to a few people, hit the portapotty. Watched the swim wave before mine from outside the chute, then had to run to get in w/my wave.
