Pre-race routine:

up @ 4AM. Coffee, oatmeal, protein shake. Drove to race. Set up in the rain. Went for a swim.
Event warmup:

Swim.
Swim
  • 34m 49s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 07s / 100 yards
Comments:

swim went better than expected. It was a fairly even effort for the entire swim. Turns out I was 7 minutes faster than Granite Ledges in 2004.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster?
Transition 1
  • 05m 58s
Comments:

rain and mud. took my time in T1. Made sure to have everything I wanted, drinks, gels, jacket, and gloves. Decided to skip the glasses and I was glad I did. I remember how horrible it was trying to see thru them in the rain at Tupper Lake.
What would you do differently?:

make it not rain?
Bike
  • 1h 57m 39s
  • 27.34 miles
  • 13.94 mile/hr
Comments:

Lost 1 gel right at the beginning, as I was trying to get one out to use. Lost my bottle of Ultima about 5 miles into the ride. Lost my water bottle about 5 miles later. Bottle launchers work as advertised.
What would you do differently?:

train. ride lots. replace bottle launchers.
Transition 2
  • 06m 9s
Comments:

again, make sure to get it right. The weather was nasty and I was not interested in having a lousy run because of a rushed T2.
What would you do differently?:

nothing.
Run
  • 1h 25m 5s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 13m 42s  min/mile
Comments:

slow slow slow.
What would you do differently?:

train.
Post race
Warm down:

went to the beach house and put on dry clothes. Nice!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

all things considered, my "Two Week Olympic Triathlon Training Plan" was a success. Maybe if I had started oh, say FEBRUARY, I would have had a better finishing time. My goal was to finish so overall I was pleased with the day.

Event comments:

ok, all things considered, I am very pleased with today's performance. I have a lot of room for improvement, but sh*t, it's only been 5 months since major surgery and there was a point when I thought I'd never do these again. Never mind the arthritis issues.
