Swam a bit prior to swim to get warmed up and used to the water.
Swim
  • 53m 20s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 32s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was pretty hard. I kept mistaking the bouys along the course as the ones to head to shore, sort of a downer. Water temp was great. First time swimming in large lake with big rollers. I think this was a pretty difficult swim. Swam a little off course needed to sight better. Never attempted bilateral breathing, waves were coming from my bad side. Was glad when it was over but overall it was not too bad.
What would you do differently?:

Check out course more. Try to stay more on track. Sighting with the larger waves was difficult.
Transition 1
  • 02m 53s
Comments:

Took suit off right out of water. Transition was a ways from water. I didn't wear a jersey in the water and my biking jersey was hard to get on. I forgot to put my electrolytes in bento box. Also didn't put Hammer Gel in Bento box or jersey pocket.
What would you do differently?:

Prepare more. Wear jersey or tri top under wetsuit.
Bike
  • 2h 43m 18s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.58 mile/hr
Comments:

Had a good bike. Got a bit of a muscle knot near the end but didn't really effect me.
Transition 2
  • 02m 58s
Comments:

socks were a bit difficult to get on. Forgot my elelctrolytes.
What would you do differently?:

Baby powder in socks and shoes. Make sure electrolytes are set out so I can remember them.
Run
  • 2h 10m 52s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 09m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Tons of people that I passed on the bike got me back on the run. Just wanted to do a pace that I knew I could run the whole way. Felt a bit odd in my stomach and really took a bunch of electrolytes at the water/food stands (thank god they had them). It got better as the run went on. Sped up the last 3 miles and finished good. I am happy with the time, I think it is better than my 1/2 marathon earlier in the year.
What would you do differently?:

Take the endurolytes with me. I was really lucky they had them on the course.
Post race
Warm down:

Pasta, chips, orange and a root beer. Ate with the family.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

My slow swimming and slow running. Oh well.

Event comments:

Really nice race. Very well organised on race day, tons of volunteers and quality energy foods (hammer gel). Registration took forever, not enough help there.

Favorite moment: Seeing the lady crying on the shoulder of her daughter/friend as I heard her friend saying "you did it." She was so overcome with emotion after finishing. It was great to have seen someone who was so emotional with what she had accomplished.
