Pre-race routine:

My friend picked me up at 745 and we got to the start super early. 2 trips to the potties which was good, so that I didn't have that "I wish I'd peed again" feeling!

I had gotten up early and had oatmeal and a banana, a cup of coffee, and I sipped on some Nuun in the car. Then I ate some LUNA moons about 20 min before the race start.

Event warmup:

Did a little bit of stretching while listening to the pre-race announcement. Turned on my ipod....I challenge anyone not to PR listening to the stuff I was listening to!!!

Comments:

I started out faster than I had planned, but figured I'd build up a little buffer in the early miles if I needed to slow down later....and I just kept going, was running with one gal most of the way, and kept trading places with her. We definitely encouraged each other with the sound of footsteps! I did slow more at the end than I had hoped, but still managed to have really good pace for the whole thing. The last mile, of course, was the toughest, as you get back onto pavement and see the people at the elusive finish line, but still have to get there.
What would you do differently?:

Probably should have carried water--had a small cup at the first aid station, and they were out of cups at the second one, and the third station didn't put enough in the cups and I was really thirsty at that point. Ate a GU at 3.5 miles and ate LUNA moons in the last 1/4 of the race---I think another GU would have been easier to consume that late in the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched and my friend Heather also did some passive stretching with me on my hips and hams, which was awesome. Drank water, ate a little bit of pizza and a cup of coffee. Cheered on my friends as they finished.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I don't think anything limited it today. I had wings on my feet for most of it, was feeling amazing!

Event comments:

Evergreen Trail Runs puts on great events, and the timing was by BuDu Racing, another great group of people. I love being on hugging level with the RD as well as the timing peeps. :)

I TOOK ALMOST 8 MINUTES OFF OF MY PREVIOUS 1/2 MARATHON PR!!!! That in itself makes me giddy. My goal was 1:50-1:55. Yay!!
