Swim
Comments: Poor job sighting, I have simply not trained on that. What would you do differently?: Sight and draft better Transition 1
Comments: I was able to get in and out easily of the suit. What would you do differently?: Use shoes with clips on the bottom and use sun screen. Bike
Comments: I lost an areo pad at mile 25 or so I only had one areo bar to use. At mile 40 or so I lost a water cage, one of the water bottles I got at a station was larger than normal and I kept hitting it with my leg and knocked it loose. AT mile 45 or so I lost all the gears above 7. The gear changer became too tight for me to turn so I was peddling real fast in the end but not going too fast. What would you do differently?: Sunscreen, shoe clips, better water cage, have gears serviced. I need to train more on the bike. Transition 2
Comments: I ran in the same shoes I biked in. What would you do differently?: Use bike shoes and then use running shoes. Run
Comments: I got too hot once I started running. I drank all the water/sports drinks I could on the ride and when I started running. I finally found a rain tent that cooled me off. What would you do differently?: Pray for rain earlier in the race. Post race
Warm down: Stand very still and walk slowly to food tent. What limited your ability to perform faster: I got too hot and did not train enough. Event comments: This was my first IM and only my second triathlon. I did an Olympic distance the month before this race. I was super excited that I finished and all the folks on the race were just great (I got to see almost everyone as they passed me on the ride and have grown to dislike the phrase "on your left" very much). There was one protester holding a sign and saying go home and I was amazed he felt that strongly to stand out front and do that on a Sunday morning. His neighbors made up for him and all the folks who took the time to get out and cheer were super. Getting there, going through registration, and setting up were all over whelming at times. There were more fit people than I have ever seen, they all looked like they knew what they were doing, and were all fitter than me. On race morning I settled down and became resigned to finish. I had a great time and was real glad I was able to bring my dad with me (he missed the start and finish) and I enjoyed spending the time before and after the race together.
