Total Time = 3h 18m 38s
Overall Rank = 62/80
Age Group = 55-59
Age Group Rank = 5/8
Pre-race routine:

I had a good steak about 5pm and some rice in the morning I had a fruit smoothie when I woke up around 5 am and a banana a half hour or so before the race. Go back and change into my tri stuff.
Event warmup:

Talk to Kido to prevent either of us from getting into the water until the last possible second.
Swim
  • 32m 8s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 57s / 100 yards
Comments:

It was tooooooooooooo cold for my taste. I went way right of the first buoy, bad navigation overall, the only two times my navigation was good was when I was going to a buoy that was making a V in the course that most of the good swimmers shortcut-ed and then on the final stretch where I could easily see the swim exit.
What would you do differently?:

I think the main limiter was lack of OWS, first OWS since SilvermAn 1/2.

Not much during the race.
Transition 1
  • 02m 26s
Comments:

worst exit out of transition I've ever had,,, there is probably some benefit in practice
What would you do differently?:

Again, not sign up for the race or practice the skills needed beforehand.

The transition time could have been better with a little more effort running into my area and a little practice.
Bike
  • 1h 41m 51s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 14.64 mile/hr
Comments:

I did have a first though, peed on the bike, a couple of times and several on the run,,,,,really the highlight of the race for me. :)
What would you do differently?:

All in all with the lack of riding I don't think I can complain,,,,, oh, to answer the question, Train,,,,
Transition 2
  • 02m 23s
Comments:

Practice more and put powder in my shoes and ck to see if they are open enough to put on.
What would you do differently?:

Check my shoes to make sure they are open so I can slide them in easily, have some powder in them and have a bottle of water in them so I can have a drink on the beginning of the run.
Run
  • 59m 52s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 09m 38s  min/mile
Comments:

None of the aid stations had a beer, I had to wait till I got back to the van for proper recovery beverage.
What would you do differently?:

My lack of racing I think prevented me from having the confidence to push myself a little more in the last two or three miles.. I'm probably the most pleased with this part of my race all things considered. I did a good job in the first 3 miles of balancing my pace and Heart Rate with perceived effort,,,,, as I mentioned I had some gas left in the tank I wish I had spent in the last mile and a half or so.
Post race
Warm down:

Beer, food, Beer had a nice time talking with Kido, AKA Jim Yancey of BT.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Drinking the night before and not doing any bike riding for the most part this year.

Event comments:

The 2 is based on mainly a couple of bad intersections that should have had traffic control, glad no one got hurt. There should have been one more water/aid station on the run.

I would have liked to see one more aid station on the run but I really shouldn't complain,.

The bibs, both bike and run were cheap POS, next year they should save even more money on them and just not have any at all then they won't have to clean them up off of the course.

My criticism of the race comes from two intersections where they should have had LEO directing traffic it had potential for BAD things to happen.

The post food & beverage was great, 2 beers and lots of pretty good food. If it wasn't for those two intersections i would have hit this with a 5.

I was happy on balance with my run, I could have picked it up a little more towards the end but did get to Geezer some buffed 34 yr old kid in the last couple hundred yards to the finish. HR Avg 157 Max 175,,,, both should have been higher, race ended before I thought it would?
Course: My kind of course, rocky I just wish they would have had some distance markers on the course. I though there was a mile or so left and it was less than a 1/4 mile.
