Swim
Comments: I am not a strong swimmer at all. I do not have any fear and don't get tired; I'm just incredibly slow. Obviously I need to work on it but it was about what I expected. What would you do differently?: Practice swimming once in a while? Transition 1
Comments: Pretty slow here. I don't really move very quickly in the transitions. I need to give some thought to what I'm doing. I just sort of go through the motions. What would you do differently?: Plan beforehand. Bike
Comments: I should have been faster here. I have been biking a lot on hilly courses and I thought I would be much faster. I tried to push but couldn't. Maybe it was the heat but I just couldn't go any faster. Disappointing Transition 2
Comments: My fingers were tingling and I had trouble getting my sneakers on. I don't think I drank enough water. Felt wobbly at first. Run
Comments: It all sort of fell apart here. I was so hot and I think I really messed up earlier by not drinking enough water. I could not run more than 50 feet. I am not a good runner to begin with but I thought I would do the 5K in around 36 minutes. I think I drank too much too quickly because I started to cramp. I almost quit a few times but finished and even jogged the last 1/4 mile. What would you do differently?: Drink more water early in the race. Run more than 15 miles/week while training. Post race
Warm down: Misting tent, water and pizza. What limited your ability to perform faster: If I'm honest I did not train as much or as hard as I should have. But the heat didn't help. Event comments: Overall I felt good. I finished it and that was a real worry for me. I need to make more time to train. Last updated: 2011-04-18 12:00 AM

Decided at the last minute to stay at a hotel with my brother and sister-in-law who were doing the race as well. I did not sleep well and didn't bring any food except for a Trader Joe's bar. I also did not have as much coffee as I normally do in the morning. I did find some Cliff Shots in my bag from my previous race so I ate those as I was setting up in transition. I should have been more prepared and left more time to get a bagel and some real coffee. Set up transition and walked around. The wait wasn't as bad as I feared. It went pretty quickly. Was able to watch my brother exit the swim before my wave started.
I just got in the water to get wet. Didn't really swim at all.
