Swim
Comments: Had an opportunity to get used to the water temp and made the swim much better. Passed several people in the two wave ahead of my wave. One person from the wave behind us passed me. Very happy with the swim. The wetsuit was great. Really cut through the water and was surprised at the buoyancy. What would you do differently?: Do more open swimming before the event. Transition 1
Comments: Seems like a long T1 time but it was a long way from the water to the transition area and a long way from my transition area to the mount line. Running in bare feet on rocks and stuff kept me from running full blast. Looks like everyone in my group roughly had the same time so I can't be too disappointed. What would you do differently?: Need to figure out how to start with my shoes clipped in. Bike
Comments: This is now my fourth triathalon and my bike time is getting faster each time. Close to 17 average. Been putting in alot of miles on the bike each week and it is paying off. I think I would have been even faster without the strong winds. What would you do differently?: First time using aero bars. Need more time with them to get it right. Transition 2
Comments: Had to run by the Olympic guys to get to the Sprint area. Several of the Oly's were having bike issues and blocked the way for a few seconds. It was a long way from the dismount line to transition and then out to the run. Was pretty happy with transition. What would you do differently?: Learn to get out of shoes before hitting the dismount line. Run
Comments: They had lots of aid stations and we really needed it. It was hot. Drank water and poured water on my head at every station to stay cool. Started slow after the bike but finished really strong. Sub 10 minute miles is very good for me. What would you do differently?: Fight through bike legs at the beginning of the run to increase speed. Post race
Warm down: Cold towel on head and lots of water. Walked around a little bit to cool down. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat and humidity was pretty rough. Event comments: The expo the day before was great. Lots of good deals. Very big race with lots of participants and spectators. Was nice to ride around the capital. Very cool! Would do again for sure. Night before ate home cooking at Threadgills. Had salisbury steak and vegetables. Drank lots of water all week to get ready. Sprint wave started at about 9:30. Couldn't really eat in the morning. Had a gu gel before the swim.
Not much of an opportunity to do any kind of warm up before the swim. They put us in the water about 4-5 minutes before the start. Learned from the Lake Travis tri in April. Kept dunking my head in the water to get acclimated to the water temperature.
