Total Time = 1h 33m 13s
Overall Rank = 36/84
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 3/10
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:15 - Daughter was doing the Kids portion of the race that started at 7 so we got an early start.
Event warmup:

Ran the last mile of her race with her as a brief warmup (She came in 1st in her age group - great first duathlon for her!).
Run
  • 24m 34s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

The 1st leg was combined with a 5K that was also happening - no body markings on anybody so it was hard to figure out who was in the Duathlon and who was in the 5K.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - held back knowing it was humid and I had more to do.
Transition 1
  • 00m 43s
Comments:

The people from the 5K were milling around the finish line - as the Duathlon participants came through, you had to weed your way through them to transition. Next year it would be good to have a volunteer there getting them out of the way.
Bike
  • 40m 30s
  • 13 miles
  • 19.26 mile/hr
Comments:

A good ride - 4 laps of a 3.5 mile course - got a little confusing at the end - went the wrong way into transition and had to run over and tell the timing people that I was there (my mistake).
Transition 2
  • 00m 20s
Comments:

Trouble geting my shoes on - just trying to go too fast.
Run
  • 26m 41s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

Even though there were no body markings, I could tell that the two guys in front of me coming out of transition were the same age. I picked them off pretty quickly and then just maintained a lead on them. The next guy ahead of me was too far up for me to catch him - I just hung on and maintained my place - it was getting really hot at this point and there was no need to push it harder.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots and lots of liquids - I was really overheating.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat - I should have carried my handheld water bottle.

Event comments:

The timing guy had some issues - we stuck around for a while but ended up having to leave before the awards. I never win anything so I figured why stick around? Turned out I came in 3rd in my age group - oh well - maybe next year. A good small town race that was a lot of fun. Good destination type race - we hung out on the beach at Hilton Head the rest of the weekend. The Race Director seems like a really nice guy - he was busting his butt to make sure things went well - very much appreciated!
