Swim
Comments: Got kicked in the eye coming up the steps out of the water. Contact lens in left eye was moved off center. Official swim time includes long run on boardwalk to T1. What would you do differently?: Not get kicked in the eye Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Tried to move contact lens back to the proper position but lens ended up falling out. Had to bike with one good eye. Going back and forth from sun / shade was difficult w/o good depth perception. Ended up misjudging turnaround, crashed and fell big time. Chain fell off. I was half blind and couldn't see well enough to put it back on. Fortunately, race crew helped and put chain back but lost ~5'. Some scrapes and bruises and sprained wrist. Transition 2
Run
Comments: Felt surprising good considering. Very hot (28C, but felt like 35C with humidex by then) but I hydrated well throughout and ended passing a lot of exhausted people. (Of course, I didn't go that hard on the bike, and had a few min rest (9' in Z1/2) while we tried to put the chain back on). According to Garmin, course is 3.22 mi, 8:41min/mi. Post race
Warm down: Stopped at medic and cleaned up, got ice for wrist. What limited your ability to perform faster: Getting kicked in the eye, losing a contact and crashing. Last updated: 2011-06-29 12:00 AM
