Pre-race routine:

First race after switching to paleo so my usual breakfast was out. Ended up choosing a green smoothie and it was a good option. Felt well fueled. Rode over with a friend, set up transition, got on the wetsuit and headed over to the lake front for the start.
Event warmup:

No warm up but I did get in the water to well pre-soak my suit.
Swim
  • 20m 2s
  • 880 yards
  • 02m 17s / 100 yards
Comments:

Felt like it was a good swim but I'm not thrilled with my time. I managed my energy well, dealt with a LOT of arms/legs/body parts (more than usual) well, sighted well and felt like it was a good swim that should have yielded a better time. Heard others say the same, so perhaps the course was a tad long?
What would you do differently?:

I do need more swim help. My technique still needs quite a bit of work.
Transition 1
  • 04m 44s
Comments:

Good transition - no problems. Run with bike was LONG, but it was long for everyone!
Bike
  • 38m 16s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.82 mile/hr
Comments:

Flat out and back on Marine Drive. Slight headwind on the way out meaning a slight tailwind on the way back in. Maintained a steady effort to the turn around and then tried to kick it up a notch. Saddle and shoulders began to hurt at about 8 miles. I'm still not thrilled with this bike but at least the wheels were working correctly this time! I felt my speed matched my effort for once. I should have pushed harder, but I wasn't really into 'racing' this day for some reason.
What would you do differently?:

Probably lose the tri bike. I'm not a fan. I don't think it held me back at all this time, but I didn't enjoy the bike leg like I used to...
Transition 2
  • 03m 24s
Comments:

Didn't run with bike as much as I could have. Didn't feel coordinated enough, actually and I didn't want a repeat of last race's fall! I also had laces still in my new run shoes, so I had to tie them.
What would you do differently?:

Switch out the regular laces for quick ones.
Run
  • 30m 47s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

Not a bad run, actually. It wasn't nearly as hot as I had feared it would be and I kind of enjoyed myself. It was a solid effort.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing - next year I'll be faster.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit looking for a friend. Shopped for a skirt. Had a gel and a bottle of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training. I really haven't been training enough lately, so I can't complain about my results. They are about what they should be given the time I've put in. It's motivating for next year though. Even with a mediocre bike, I should have been 8th in my age group. My run is STILL by biggest limiter, so it justifies my plans to focus mostly on running this winter.
