Swim
Comments: Got tangled up at the first buoy and had to jostle with some other Clydes. Big dudes just don't give up. Had to wait 20 secs or so at the ladders at the end. Also, there was some ruling about wetsuits not being necessary due to the water conditions. This was not publicly announced but was passed around word of mouth. Regardless, almost no one performed in a wetsuit. It was fine with me. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This was my strongest swim showing by far. I realize this isn't saying much but I am glad that I did as well as I did. More swim training in the future and I will hopefully get faster. Transition 1
Comments: Struggled getting into my shoes. I tried leaving them on the bike and then slipping my feet in but that was more difficult than I anticipated. Next year I will put them on and run with them on. Bike
Comments: My bike was not tuned up properly prior to the race. This was a necessary cost-savings measure but it hurt me since for the first 1/2 mile, the bike kept slipping gears every 4th or 5th revolution. The problem thankfully stopped, though, and I had a solid remainder of the bike segment. What would you do differently?: Tune up the bike, even if I have to charge the service. It is also time I invest in some aero bars. Transition 2
Comments: Getting off the damn bike was surprisingly tricky for some reason. Coming down the hill into the transition zone complicated my attempt to get out of my shoes. Still, it was a pretty good transition. What would you do differently?: Anticipate and plan a bit more carefully. Run
Comments: Felt pretty good throughout the run. My kids and wife were at the top of the hill coming off of the freeway which gave me a huge boost. I high fived all 6 of them, cranked up my ipod, and hustled my ass up that hill. Smooth sailing from there on. Smoked some dude in the last 200 yards just for the hell of it. He's the one on the blue and green suit behind me in the run shots. Post race
Warm down: Last hustle took a little more out of me than I thought. It took me a few minutes just to recover. What limited your ability to perform faster: Weight! Drop the damn weight for next year. Event comments: I love this race. This is my 3rd time participating. It has a tight footprint which makes it a really great place for spectators. Biking on the shoreway makes it feel like I am a pro biker and swimming in the inner harbor definitely is a bragging point at the bar. Everyone should do this one. Last updated: 2011-08-04 12:00 AM

Woke up at 5:15 am, car was already packed, ate regular breakfast, woke all 5 kids up, and got under way. Parked a little too far away and was kind of discombobulated getting myself set up in the transition area. It was very overcast at the beginning of the race and rained ever so slightly fight before the swim.
None.
