Pre-race routine:

Oatmeal and half peanut butter sandwich hour and a half before race start. Hammer Gel 15 min. prior to swim.

Fastest 500 yet. Was also my first time with 4 people per lane. Felt pressure to go faster with people coming up behind me. Finished with Lesley about 9 seconds behind.

Better breathing, no breaks.

Tried to eat a Hammer gel during transition. Bad idea. Also mounted bike before I was supposed to.

jog bike to mount line. Duh.

Used a mountain bike. (all I had.) Felt strong on the bike, but kept getting passed by people on road bikes. Huh..... guess I need a road bike. :)

Waved to the kids and about crossed the dismount line. Slammed on brakes, almost wiped out in front of everyone. Nice.
What would you do differently?:

pay close attention to speed and dismount line. Be aware of jello legs on dismount.

Got passed by a bunch of heat 2 folks, but I passed a few from my heat. Not a fast pace, but I felt good. Sprinted to the finish with someone I passed towards the end. Had no idea I had the ability still to sprint until I was chased. Fun.
What would you do differently?:

Faster pace.

Mostly high fiving the kids and waiting for Lesley to finish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I have too much fat still. Slow process.

Event comments:

This was Lesley and my first Tri. We did it together to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. It was a very enjoyable day.
