Swim
Comments: Beautiful pool that was divided into 2 and each section had it's own zig zag course. Plenty of room to pass and ended up doing just that to about 4 ppl. Bottle necked at the end with 3 other ladies and had to wait my turn to climb up the ladder What would you do differently?: Change my level from 7 to 8 Transition 1
Comments: Very upset with this transition. First, the transition area was furthers from any of the entrances and exits. Second, I had seen a smiley face balloon on the bar next to mine, yet after my swim, I tried to located the balloon and was gone! Then, I got confused with my number and was going back and forth not finding my bike. Finally, a nice lady saw my number and directed my to my bar. Arghhh..frustrating. What would you do differently?: Don't rely on a balloon to locate my bike. Next time, will really pay attention to how far in and back I'm located Bike
Comments: I was looking forward to the bicycling as this is my favorite section. Was hoping for a better time, but two vehicle issues slowed it down. First there was a truck that didn't feel comfortable driving around the slower bicyclist in front of me, which kept me from passing until he finally went around. Second, a police officer let a large truck turn left at the same time I was wanting to turn left. So, I almost came to a complete stop until the truck built it's momementum again after the turn and could drive on. What would you do differently?: Nothing different, just hope for not vehicles in my way next time. Transition 2
Comments: After having to get off the bike, my legs were in no shape to begin running with my bike back to the pole. So, I walked as fast as I could and racked my bike before walking my way to the running entrance. Also, while walking to the running entrance, opened and slurped down a raspberry creme goo - yum! What would you do differently?: Need to hustle more in T2 and hope that I'm closer to the gates. Run
Comments: Definitely my weakest portion of the triathlon. My legs were so tired when I got off the bike that I just couldn't run for a good 4-5 minutes at start. Finally picked it up a bit and tried to pace myself (which is still a very slow job). Walked a couple minutes again around the middle of the run. Really helped to hear ppl cheering me on because this was tough for me. Once I saw the finish line, I picked it up big time and sprinted across What would you do differently?: I think I would still walk for a couple of minutes after the transition, but then be consistent with my jogging afterward and try to not to walk anymore. Post race
Warm down: Given a nice filled water bottle by the volunteers and quickly drank it. Walked slowly around and waited for my friend to finish. Then walked around to the different tents to grab snacks and other goodies. Couldn't eat right away except for the yummy oranges that were already quartered. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not pushing myself hard enough, waiting in line to get out of pool. Waiting for vehicles to continue bike ride. Event comments: This was my very first triathlon (I haven't even done a 5k yet!) and I had such a good time that I can't wait to do another. All of the practicing made me realize how much I enjoy bicycling and I plan on taking advantage of some of the bicycle shop rides that are offered in the near future.
