Pre-race routine:

Woke up somewhat late, so I couldn't make my usual eggs with spinach. Settled for a sheetz breakfast sandwich on the way.
Event warmup:

Park and register, walk to the pig barn, find various friends that were running. Take pictures while I was still smiling.
Run

  • 7.1 miles
  • 20m 08s  min/mile
What would you do differently?:

Be a mountain goat. That's about it.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being a large man and not a small rabbit.

Event comments:

Having frat guys in costumes with beads and beer at the two aid stations: awesome.

I'll run in the woods again, but the narrowness of these trails made me think twice about a similar event.

Also, the "easiest" final obstacle choice, the hay bales, could have been the most dangerous for a person who lost their balance. If I went backwards, I would have been dead or paralyzed, or at least several broken bones.

Course: For goats. I mean, I get the whole philosophy on why trail running is better, and I love to be in the woods. But man, I twisted my good ankle three times, never ran up or down on the wooded hill section, and worried about falling to serious injury about 65% of the time.
