Swim
Comments: Quite rough surf. Current was assisting the direction of swim, but also felt like we were being pulled out to sea. This caused some navigational problems, seemingly by everyone. Very tough swim, but I tried to stay RPE 7-8. What would you do differently?: More OWS practice would be good. Transition 1
Comments: Fair run from swim to T1 - approx 300m. Start of bike was a bit winding so made it tough to get into shoes and up to speed quickly. What would you do differently?: More practice for flying mount next year. Bike
Comments: Race plan was to take it easy on first 10km at least and not burn out. I found it hard to hold back, but did so. There was a very strong headwind coming back into town. 3 gels around 20mins apart. 1 bottle of water and 1 bottle of gatorade. What would you do differently?: Nothing, apart from more training. Transition 2
Comments: Had to move someone else's bike which had drifted into my section. Slowed me down only slightly. What would you do differently?: Get more confident at getting off moving bike. Run
Comments: Weather was not so hot, and drank enough on bike so had a cup of water at first 3 aid stations, and did not drink for last 5km. Gel at around 4km mark. What would you do differently?: Nothing, apart from more training. Post race
Warm down: Brief stretch, rehydrate, fruit, then awesome breakfast. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fitness. Training went really well this year and I could not have performed better with my current fitness level. Wind - big headwind on bike did slow me down and prevented me from going under 2:30. Set up transition. Had to buy goggles as I realised the night before that I had forgotten them. The race expo opened at 7 and I started at 7:37 so that was lucky!
