Run
Comments: Started near the back of the 300 person pack and felt really good at the sound of the gun. Started with a somewhat slow pace as I learned the hard way about starting too fast. I saw a lot of people shooting out of the gate and many people were ahead of me. But I had a plan to start slow and then pick it up near the end. As I got past the first mile I felt good and began to start passing people. Made my way through the first tunnel and began picking people off left and right which really motivated me to run at a good pace. Kept a great pace all the way to the halfway point which started the up hill climb back to start. I kept a good pace and did not stop at all up the hill. Once I got back to flat land I really increased my pace and once again was passing many people. At about mile 5 to 5.5 I started to feel dizzy and had to stop to eat another shot block. I think i was dehydrated as I wasn't stopping for water at the aid stations due to slight cramping. Gave myself about 30 seconds to recover then headed home. Was very happy with my pacing today. What would you do differently?: May need to start slightly faster if i want to pace in the next race, but the overall winner in my age group was 45:14 so I have quite a ways to go before I even have a chance. Post race
Warm down: Not much, ate a few pieces of watermelon and drank a few bottles of water. Had to bring my Dad to the hospital for a broken nose so I didnt stretch like I should have. What limited your ability to perform faster: My pace needs to get faster but I am improving each run so I was happy. Had a huge pasta dinner the night before with my Dad and Lindy. Slept well and even slept past the alarm. Woke up with about 20 minutes before we had to leave. Sipped an espresso, made sure I went to the bathroom, grabbed my ipod and water, out the door.
Just did some static warm-up, slow jogging, high steps, butt kicks, etc...
