Swim
Comments: When I got in the water, it was so cold that it took your breath away. When I started out on the swim it was rough because putting my body all the way under the water seemed so cold. I got used to the water within about 20 seconds, so I didn't even notice the cold for very long. I didn't do well on the way out to the first bouy. I kept getting kicked, so I dropped back behind a few more people. I had to stop a couple of times because of earplug trouble, but I finally got them right. I got in a good groove after I the first turn, and kept it going throughout most of the rest of the swim. It must have worked because it was my best swim EVER in a race. What would you do differently?: I would make sure my earplugs were in correctly!!! Transition 1
Comments: Good transition, one of my fastest. Bike
Comments: The bike portion of this race was crazy. I have never seen so many people have flat tires!!! I started out going at a great speed and thought I was going to do great. Then I turned around and hit the wall of wind. I still did pretty well though. I felt bad for all the people on the side of the road. I passed one girl at the end of my last turn around. She was trying to fix a flat on her bike. I asked her if she was ok, and she said she was out of tubes and didn't have a pump. I told her I had a tube, that I would get it to her after my turn-around. When I got back around to her, I stopped and got out a tube and gave her my pump. She asked for my bib number so she could give me my tube back. I was number 640, how crazy was it that she was 641!!! She was right next to me!!! I made it back in and had a really quick second transition. I was very happy with my bike. Transition 2
Comments: Pretty good transition. Run
Comments: This was the best run I have ever done in a triathlon. I felt really bad when I started out, but by the time I reached the aid station I was feeling much better. I usually have to walk at least half of the run, but I actually ran most of the way. I can tell that my training I've been doing for the last few weeks is really helping. I really felt good as I came into the finish. It was really cool to hear my 4 year old sitting on his Daddy's shoulders shouting "Go, Mommy, Go!" I had a nice strong finish. I was very pleased with the run. What would you do differently?: I would remember to take my powergel before I started the run instead of after I reached the aid station. Post race
Warm down: I got a bottle of water from the volunteer at the finish line. Then I went and talked with my family. Event comments: The race was good, the road was just awful and the flat tires were EVERYWHERE!!! Last updated: 2006-05-07 12:00 AM

This morning I got up at 5:00 (well, the alarm went off at 5:00, and I stayed in bed a few extra minutes) and got dressed while eating my Snicker's Marathon Bar. We got in the truck at about 5:40, and I drank about half a propel on the way there.
When we got there, we got the bikes out of the truck and loaded up all our stuff in our backpack then headed on the quarter-mile walk down to the transition area.
Luckily, we were early enough that I had my choice of spots on my rack and I didn't feel rushed. I had to go to the Bike Mart guy and ask him to fix my computer. It fell off on the walk down to the transition area. Luckily it was an easy fix, and I sure was happy it didn't happen during the actual race.
When I got everything situated in the transition area, Andy and I headed down to the water to see how cold it was. I had heard it was freezing, and I wasn't looking forward to the swim. We waded in up to our ankles, and it was cold, but it wasn't as cold as I had imagined. We looked at all the people in the wet suits and wished we had one, but were glad that the water wasn't as cold as it could have been.
