Total Time = 2h 39m 32s
Overall Rank = 59/149
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 13/29
Pre-race routine:

woke up 4am, cereal, banana, backed up bike, arrived at race, set up, etc
Event warmup:

not much for long race
Swim
  • 28m 42s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 45s / 100 yards
Comments:

good swim relative to age group, felt OK, didn't use legs much, had trouble navigating the 4th buoy as my goggles had fogged, couldn't find anyone to draft either,
What would you do differently?:

need to practice drafting / navigation
Transition 1
  • 01m 6s
Comments:

long run from beach to bike transition, did OK, rank 53 in transition 12th in age group
What would you do differently?:

need to practice running after getting out of water
Bike
  • 1h 15m 31s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 19.74 mile/hr
Comments:

thought I was going pretty hard, surprised I was only 75 in biking segment, 4x over the causeway was hard as I don't practice hills enough, spun over them, also on way back after causeway, had a headwind and slowed down
What would you do differently?:

need to put in more miles on the bike, also had some trouble with aerobars
Transition 2
  • 01m 23s
Comments:

unstrapped shoes but wasn't able to get feet out, 85th rank, 19th in age group, minor cramp in calf when trying to pull feet out
What would you do differently?:

need to practice this more
Run
  • 52m 50s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 31s  min/mile
Comments:

it was hot, I had a tough run, the first lap was reasonably OK, there wasn't enough water on the course, the second lap I was just trying to get through, went slow to the finish
What would you do differently?:

stop at the water stations for a minute to cool
Post race
Warm down:

walked around, took a good 10 minutes for my pulse to go back down below 130 I was so hot

What limited your ability to perform faster:

heat on the run, the causeway on the bike

Event comments:

swim was OK, took it easy, bike was fun, hard due to causeway and head wind coming back, run was tough due to heat and lack of water stations, good challenging race for me
