Pre-race routine:

Early drive with Jimbo to the race. Had 3 packets of oatmeal with almonds and milk and some tea. During the drive had accelerade and relaxed. Got there in plenty of time and a good spot in the TX area. Got the stuff laid out and started the warmup.
Event warmup:

Went for a 2 mile run with pickups to race pace. Took the bike out for a loop around the course but the other entrance was closed, got in about 5 1/2 miles with a T2 practice. Took in some calories with PBJ sandwich and some gel. Wet suited up with about 15 min prior to the swim and practiced some wetsuit stuff (first swim with suit this season). OW felt great and there were some clouds to keep the glare down. Out and ready for the start.
Swim
  • 09m 12s
  • 587 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

No rankings on the board yet but was probably around 9th to 10th ish. I had not been putting in much time at the pool and guess what....yep it showed and it cost me in the rankings. Jimbo took off and I tried to draft him but he was to fast and I had to back off. Got a draft the rest of the way though so that was OK. One breathed on left side (buoy side) and every stroke, navigation was pretty easy and did not swim any extra.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more prior, need to hit the pool with a plan as I have been free wheeling it!!

What would you do differently?:

Hit it about right.
Bike
  • 29m

Comments:

Got up to speed quickly and was hammering. The time they show is 29:00, I had 28:32 but not sure when I hit the watch but it was not 30 seconds off....anyhoo. Had the 2nd fastest bike split in the race for people not in a team and did not get passed by anyone. Had a dude drafting off me for a bit give him a look and quick shot of brakes, hammered, dropped him and did not see him any more!!!
What would you do differently?:

Felt pretty good was working hard so not much, maybe try to work a higher cadence up the hill.
Transition 2
  • 00m 32s
Comments:

29 seconds was the fastest T2 so I'll take 32 seconds.......
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, schweeet T2.
Run
  • 18m 22s
  • 3 miles
  • 06m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

The run felt really good today. The legs felt like they came back much quicker than last race. The first mile felt a little slow when I hit the lap button I turned a 6.13!!! I started picking off runners one by one and no one passed. The 2nd mile had a long gradual uphill section and turned a 6.09 with a turnaround. Last mile had a downhill portion and was able to hit a 5.59. For not having run that much I was really happy with the run today.
What would you do differently?:

There was a little left in the tank at the end....fire up the motor a little earlier.
Post race
Warm down:

Cooling down with water and walking around.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Pretty fast today and happy but the swim....need to develop a solid plan for the pool.

Course: 3 loop course which was kind of sketchy as they was 500 people on the course at the 3rd lap (all the tri and du athletes) making for a lot of crazy riding and "on your left calls" which were ignored. Out the TX up hill then 1 medium climb and 2 more smaller uphill sections. The rest was flat, fast or downhill.
