Swim
Comments: Unbelievable clear water, beautiful pastel corals and fish to look at the whole time. Made the swim really enjoyable, despite constant body contact w/ other swimmers throughout the swim. I'm not sure if the course was narrow or crowded, or I was just keeping up w/ the pack Transition 1
Comments: Felt I didn't have to rush as much as during a Sprint tri, sat down and got sand off feet to avoid blisters! Used socks this time for bike and run Bike
Comments: Leaving the transition area to the road which connects to the main hwy was congested and an official yelled at me that I would get a 2 sec penalty for passing a rider and going out of shoulder onto road. However, the road was coned off on my side (like it appeared they were widening the bike lane) which led me to believe riding out of the shoulder was ok. They did not mention this during the pre-race meeting what the cones were for. However, I didn't see the penalty on my race results, not like 2 secs mattered anyhow. However once I got on the hwy I was conscious of not crossing the white line as it means DQ. It was hard to follow the passing/drafting rules when there were tons of super slow riders clumped together. Transition 2
Comments: coming out of the transition area there were no volunteers pointing me to where the run started (my bad for not memorizing the race course) or any signs. I had to really stop and look around. Run
Comments: Can't believe I passed people, esp on trail portions. Running is my weakest and newest discipline, but I ran the whole time (walked through aid stations). At the end I was passing someone on the trail and tripped on loose rocks, being tired I didn't lift my feet enough. Caught myself so I didn't totally skin my knees, only left palm. About 1.5 miles of trail mixed into the course. Running through the resort was challenging to dodge tourists. The race says you run on the King's Trail, but that was not true. The King's Trail is higher up towards the mountain. Just sounds good for marketing. I think the course should be altered to include way more trail running, it was hardly worth it to wear my trail shoes as most of the run was in the resort. Post race
