Swim
Comments: Started strong in the front of my wave, as I rounded the 1st turn buoy, my foot got tangled in the rope of the buoy...that got my already high HR up even more, had to stop for a sec and gather myself. Afterwards, I continued to sprint swim, breathing unilaterally and was spent by the time we reached the beach, so much so that I could hardly run from the beach to T1. (T1 was at least 75-100 yds from the beach.) Overall though, this was an improved swim effort for me from my last race. What would you do differently?: Probably could've saved a little time on the swim if hadn't got caught in that buoy rope. Maybe I'll try to get wider around it next time. Transition 1
Comments: swim start/finish had a long beach, so feet were sandy...used a water bottle to wash feet but then had some trouble getting socks on. What would you do differently?: Probably would just bike without socks, although I don't prefer that. Bike
Comments: This bike was tough...road surface kinda sucked, it was very rough road with lots of cracks and dips. Most of the way back, there was a fairly strong headwind that really ate up some effort. A couple big hills but they were just big hills, just zapped some energy for everyone. I raced this bike pretty hard with lots of effort, although my overall fitness was down considerably so my effort didn't gain me lots of position. What would you do differently?: Not much else to do here but train more. I hammered it as hard as i could. Transition 2
Comments: T2 was pretty good here. What would you do differently?: Only thing I could've done to save time would be some speed laces for my shoes. Having to tie laces always slows my T2. Run
Comments: Not my best run effort at all. I was very disappointed in my time here. I should have had a better time but my quads started cramping after coming out of the woods, so the whole last mile to 1.5 miles of the run I was in pain and just limping along. What would you do differently?: Not sure what caused the quad cramps here. Coulda been the beers I had the night before the race, maybe it was the fact that i hammered the bike so hard, maybe i didn't drink enough on the bike, or maybe the long hill climb on the run was too tough, or maybe it was a combination of all of the above. Idk for sure what it was but I hope that I don't have to deal with those cramps again...they really crippled me on the run. Post race
Warm down: typical What limited your ability to perform faster: Okay, no excuses here but...my half mary a few weeks before then going on vacation for 10 days, left me with little time to properly train leading up to this race and waaaay outta shape with some fitness loss and def some signif wt gain. I knew going into this race that this wasn't going to be my best race b/c of my down fitness and logistics but it was a fun race and good experience. Event comments: The race was well managed; it's been around for 20 yrs I think. The course was tough and challenging, esp for an outta shape triathlete. Shirts were pretty cool with a great design. This one's def worth doing. Last updated: 2012-03-26 12:00 AM

Typical...ate a pop tart and a nutrigrain bar, sipped on gatorade and water.
Not much...couple strokes in the water just to get my head wet.
