Age Group Rank = 2/14
Pre-race routine:

We stayed at M-I-L's the night before, and we got to the JCC around 6:45. That gave us enough time to check-in, hubby to take a 1-loop preride since he had never biked the course, time for son to get walked through the transition area and start of run. Time for daughter to do warm-ups in pool. Time to meet up with friends and do a bit of chit chat.
Event warmup:

I took a shot block about 30 minutes before I entered pool. Lots of water.
Swim
  • 06m 1s
  • 250 yards
  • 02m 25s / 100 yards
Comments:

The woman behind me didn't get the memo about lane sharing, and she ran into me twice as she was swimming on the wrong side of the lane.

Swim time includes transition time to bike.
What would you do differently?:

Keep working on my swim

Comments:

It took me almost a mile to get my breathing and pace nailed down. I felt ragged in the beginning. I passed 2 and was passed by 2. I passed an additional guy but he repassed me on the kick to the fininsh. I am a little surprised at how slow my time was. I thought I was faster than that.
What would you do differently?:

work on speed work!
Post race
Warm down:

hang out with family and friends!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

weight, training time

Event comments:

The challenge of triathlon is to balance the three sports. I worked hard on my swim for this race, but at the expense of running. I don't know why my bike time was so much better than previous years. Conditions? Me?

I wish we got separate timings for transitions.

My tri swimming class paid off! I felt strong in the pool. I used my new breast-stroke turn on the straight turns, and just my plain old push off for going under the lane lines.

Performance:
Felt pretty strong on this leg of race. I passed oodles and was passed by only one. Cornering was good. A couple of times I had to anticipate cars, which slowed me down slightly. I was 1st in my age category on this leg!
Wind: Little
Course: 3 laps around Marblehead Neck. It is an open course: I had 2 instances of slowing down to deal with cars. But overall, I thought I made the right decisions
